Which emitter is the C01 using? I noticed it’s on sale.

C01 uses a reflector while C01R has TIR optics?

Not really a reflector, just machined bare aluminum with a 5 mm LED.

It’s also worth noting that its single mode is not as bright as the C01R/C01S, and has simpler electronics for (presumably) better reliability.
You can see the full saga of the light here: [Available again! - BLF special edition light] new Sofirn AAA twisty high CRI 5mm LED

a 5mm LED

similar to the old Fenix E01

Ah, okay. I might pass…

I recommend the C01R with 3 modes, using the SST-20 660nm. I think they are very nice…

the C01 5mm Red 670nm version has only one mode, its for muggles
and they can be a nice spare battery carrier

I’ve got two C01R’s with the XP-E2 660nm emitter.

Is there much difference with the SST-20-DR 660nm?

Ah, thanks for the info! (scrolls through pages)

I dont think so, but, I dont have first hand experience.

I have tried xp-e2 660nm and also xp-g3 660nm. I could not see a difference in the color, only in the price of the LED

I originally posted that I had received an SST-20 C01R, but it turned out to be an xp-e2

those comments that I thought were about sst-20, were actually observations of an xp-e2 C01.

I got confused when I bought the most recent xp-e2, and mistakenly thought it was sst-20.

anyway… imo the only difference is the price of the LED.

No worries! I ordered 4x SST-20-DR LEDs. I’ll try to see if there’s much difference.

Mine just shipped! Sofirn sent the email 2 minutes ago.

SST20 660nm version is a little brighter than the previous XPE2 660nm version.

hundreds of C01R with SST20-DR 660nm are in the warehouse now!

First come, first serve

SST-20 Deep Red is a bigger and more powerful led, so when comparing it in the same flashlight to XP-E2 Photo Red it should have a bigger hotspot and be somewhat brighter.

Received today via USPS. Seems like a good niche flashlight. Three levels, nice build, smooth threads.

My only other red flashlight is a 4Sevens Preon 0. The Preon is floody, whereas the Sofirn has a focused spot. The floody Preon will be more appropriate for reading a map or star chart at close distance, and the Sofirn will be better for distance work; hunting nightcrawlers, or navigating a trail. The Sofirn C01 build quality is wonderful. I lubed its threads with SuperLube, and it is very smooth. I might buy a couple more as gifts for my camping friends.

My two arrived today via Royal Mail, twelve days after Sofirn shipped it.

Lovely little light. Considering adding a red tritium capsule to one of them.

I put a little Nyogel 795A damping grease on the threads. That improves the feel of the switch. Worth doing if you have some on hand. Not worth it if you don’t already have some. Light works fine stock.

I have both and the SST-20 does indeed have a larger hotspot, but the difference in brightness is less than I expected. I will try to take a few pics after it gets a little darker.

Hi,

I just got my two C01 with Cree XP-E2 Photo Red (see photo) directly from the “Sofirn Official Store” on aliexpress.
The brightness is as expected and the colour seems really to be redder than standard red LEDs.

(Picture follows, if I know how to upload one …)
