Sofirn SD03 diving light, first thoughts

Interesting. Weird tbh, why not putting this into Sofirns official store? (Or on Amazon)

I don’t get it why they do this. Maybe these are pre-production samples or something like this, would also explain the missing manual. Allegadly - according to Aliexpress - it should have a 5000 K SFT-40, can you confirm this?

The PDF manual says so. Will check when it arrives (Sofirn approached me for a review).

getting a bit off-topic from main post…

but my guess is that they have few stocks for now.

I also remember some model that were listed in Sofirn’s other stores, but not in our localized Shopee store.

Probably because they have few stocks at the moment.

On occasion, they may list certain “unusual” variants… eg. I once ordered a Sofirn SP33S that was specifically stated to NOT HAVE temperature stepdown. Granted, it only had a few units available on that localized store, and this variant was not seen again. (the SP33S that does not have temperature stepdown does really get burning hot after a few minutes in Turbo; compared to the regular SP33S). From outside appearance, the SP33S (without temperature stepdown) looks exactly the same as the regular SP33S flashlight.

I also once ordered a Sofirn SP31v2 (from Sofirnlight.com) that has the same “no temperature stepdown” feature (the ad specifically stated this “special” version, compared to regular SP31v2)… This was only available once. I suppose these “special” samples were not meant for mass-production, so they were only listed in one of their specific stores…

Going back to the SD03 - I’d think this model will probably go into mass-production, but it has only few stocks at the moment, which is why it’s only listed in one or two of their stores… at least that’s my theory.

Interesting. Really seems that they sell some pre-production or test samples which are bought by this shop much cheaper from Sofirn (?).
I was not aware that this is allowed since I expected that pre-production samples are destroyed and replaced with final designs from mass production.

I did not get the SD03 sample for review yet. But I already told Sofirn about adding a low mode (3-5 lm), like I did for the bigger SD06 since this would greatly extend the usability in everyday life. They answered that they will forward these suggestions to the tech department, so the design doesn’t seem to be final.

I guess a small revenue is better than no revenue at all.

Yes, but destroying prototypes/Test samples instead of putting them on sale is not so unusual for many companies.

Thank you for your feedback so much, I have reported this to our boss and the prototype will be used for reviews in the future. :grinning:

We will make soon a review and underwater test about the new model SD06

wow! Looking forward to your review and test
