I use and highly recommend liberkey and portableapps.

Both are an extensive collection of open source and free programs setup to run in a portable environment (aka, you can put them on a USB flash drive and run them on any machine you desire).

There is rarely a task tat the combo of these suites can not take care of, including a flac to MP3 conversion.

I have the full suites downloaded for both (I prefer liberkey personally, although portableapps is updated more) and besides firefox, office and some proprietary programs that are actually installed on my computer, these serve all of my daily computing needs.

I run everything portable now days, it is so much better.

This is what I use for my own music collection, works great! Not really a “converter” but it does have conversion abilities.

Back in the Win 95 years i was on top of this stuff, but i was much younger and in a different stage of life back then, i didn’t keep up and my knowledge is quite outdated today. Some things have not changed and some have changed quite a bit.

Nahh, in the case of Windows, the more things are different, the more they stay the same.

I did that a few years ago just for the heck of it (and to relive some old games).

Boot times were insane, less then 10 seconds from end of POST to fully booted windows. Now finding drivers to actually do anything with said install proved far more difficult and I ended up just resorting to a virtual machine, still took only a few seconds to boot although dosbox proved the better option for playing said games.

Love me some old school “raptor”.
