I am planning a hunting trip soon that will envolve a lot of night-time looking around and since I have a great thrower on the way, I figured that I would go ahead and order some spare parts since things tend to break and I don’t want to wait weeks for repair supplies.
I’m looking for a spare lens and some O-rings for a fandyfire stl-v6. Can anybody help me out with measurements or links for the parts so that I can be sure an order the right stuff?
I’d be very greatful!
After much searching, I have found that pretty much nobody sells the lenses and that they are 59mm in size. So if I want spares, I need to either cut them myself, or pay someone to cut them.
So, I have a couple questions remaining.
Does anyone know what the O-ring size is for this light? Body, Bezel… anyone got measurements?
and….
Can I use an acrylic lens, or does this baby run too hot for that?
Please understand that I don’t have the light yet, or I would just measure for myself
I think your best bet is to wait for it to arrive and measure up all the parts just to make sure everything is spec’d right. IMHO your’e not going to need new O-rings for a while anyways, provided you lube them well and keep them free of dirt/gunk. The tailcap O-ring will be the first to go, but even then it should last at least a year or two provided you keep it lubed properly.
Plastic lenses will work fine in a light like this. The XML doesn’t create that much heat with its light output. Don’t quote me on this, but I thought flashlightlens will custom cut glass to your spec.
I think a bigger concern is the driver, being that 8.4V buck circuits like the one used in this light have some BLF history of failure. I believe this is the reflector/pill assembly used in this light. But then again, wait to get yours and double check to make sure.
