In these following photos I was unable to completely compress the spring one handed while taking a photo.
This is the GT70 carrier. If I measure from the bottom board, at the bottom of the spring to the top button I get 69.77mm but that does not account for the spring.
This is the GT carrier. If I measure from the bottom board, at the bottom of the spring to the top button I get 71.94 mm but that does not account for the spring.
Here you can see the difference in thickness of the aluminum spacer.
Another shot.
This cell would almost fit but it does not fit under the button of the carrier, I could probably get it in but I would certainly damage the button top of the cell.
Under no circumstances would this cell fit, just no…
So there are some clear changes in the production of the new carrier. I hope this helps. Don’t mind me chilling in my boxers.
So it basically looks like they made the end caps thicker and the legs holding them together shorter so they end up at the same total height.
I wonder why?
What do you think the max length of the cell would be, 68.5mm? There’s not many protected cells that short. They basically made it “unprotected only”.
Plus they didn’t tell anyone or even ask us if it was okay.
I wonder if this extends to the older GT light? I assume they share carriers.
I guess we will call them the old carrier and the new carrier.
Howard, did you buy those protected cells just for the GT70 or are they some leftover ones? The Samsung 2600mah is from 2014. It’s an old battery with old chemistry. You get heavy voltage sag under load. It’s not a good choice for the GT70.
The Imalent battery has a Samsung 30Q under the wrapper and it’s a good cell for the GT70. I could strip the protection board off, solder a brass button top and slap a new wrapper on, but it’s at least a $13 cell ($104 for 8) so that doesn’t make sense. Maybe you could sell the Imalents and get a set of unprotected button top 30Q for under $50? That would be my suggestion.
If you really want to use protected cells, maybe you could find someone with a regular GT who never uses protected cells and see if they will swap carriers with you.
Just checked mine carriers…
Both my GT´s have the “old carriers” and protected batteries will fit.
My just arrived GT70 has the “new carrier” (thicker aluminum spacer) and protected batteries will NOT fit.
Well guess what Teacher?
I guess perhaps my comment about those thin skinned people not liking your humor has now earned me a hit on MY Rude Button.
We have a real jerk in our midst, thankfully those types are very rare and usually aren’t here very long ,
Ha Ha, run for a safe place, that’s to funny my friend, you must be a Teacher in training.
Every once in awhile this happens and some jerk comes along and tries to cause trouble in our generally happy family.
But the good news is that we have SB and he keeps an eye on everything.
Edit: Teacher, ha ha ha, Do you remember the last time this stuff happened with the rude button, maybe the clown is back… Not for long that much I’m sure of.
Edit 2: Opp, he’s lurking, it’s a troll and I just got another rude hit, ha ha
Giving someone a rude point over basically nothing proves they are unhappy with their pitiful lives. The only time I ever gave anyone a rude point is they personally attacked someone, or a group of people. Usually those members get banned.
You’re right. Just proves rude points over nothing is nothing to Mr. Admin because how many of us who have gotten petty rude points have been warned by him? I haven’t. Let these losers have their fun. I feel sorry for them….NOT
Thank you TA, You are spot on, I was thinking that myself because I’ve fell for this stuff before with the last troll, I’ve got slightly thin skin myself I guess and I’ve bit into this game before, one of my own defects in character I suppose, but it’s always good to get a tuneup and to send out an apology to my fellow members, I’m sorry,
Thanks Again for the reminder…!!!
