- The Fake-Cree LED Awareness Thread - The new "low" in Budget lights.

+1

Hmm compare it to this pic from the OP

It looks more like the LB then the Cree if I am not mistaken

You may be right however, the bond wire pads are round like a genuine Cree, there is quite a lot of texture to the base and the lines on the die are less well defined than on the LatticeBright.

It has everything of the genuine Cree: round connectors, large and fusy die, textured base…

My saga of the counterfeit LED bike light continues. If somebody could have a peek at this light:

https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10012145/2062804-5t6-5-cree-xm-l-t6-3-mode-4500lm-6000-6500k-led

and let me know the verdict, fake or not, I would be very thankfull. I’m trying to resolve my situation and would accept this as a replacement if it has authentic emitters.

Thank you.

There are two reasons that we’re probably not going to give you a useful answer here. First, the photos aren’t high res enough to examine the LEDs and secondly even if the one in the photos has genuine emitters the one you receive may not, the photo could be old and the light may have since had an emitter downgrade or a change of manufacturer etc.

Being pragmatic the question to ask is whether it will perform well enough to do it’s job, i.e. will it be bright enough if its a fake, it probably will.

@OneBadWolf: It’s hard to tell from the pictures… but the ‘white circle’ around the die seems to indicate a smaller die. On a genuine XML this circle is not so ‘fat’ because the die reaches the edges… Not sure i’m making sense though.

As i said on your FT thread, IMO this is too cheap to be good… Too many leds, charger, battery pack and all…

For instance the following light cost about the same with just three XMLs - that look genuine on the pics, and nothing else (no batteries…)

OneBadWolf, they sell genuine Cree leds so if they turn out to be LB I would simply ask for replacements on compatible stars

Replied to that thread, and sent you a PM. Thanks for your help.

@The Miller

There are no compatible stars.

I’m not out to lunch as far as price, I bought

http://www.dx.com/p/5-x-cree-xm-l-t6-3000lm-3-mode-white-bicycle-headlamp-dark-grey-4-x-18650-192065

2 years ago, it is still $26 CAD, it had authentic Crees. It was fantastic. Fasttech has my $ now though, and I really could use some help finding a product there that would perform the same as the one above, so at least I can recover my $.

I don’t want to derail this thread, it is a valuable resource, if anybody knows of a light that is equilvant to the one above on Fasttech, please PM me. I have learned my lesson at Fasttech, and am trying ti do some damage control.

@kowshak

“Being pragmatic the question to ask is whether it will perform well enough to do it’s job, i.e. will it be bright enough if its a fake, it probably will.”

The one I recieved won’t. It was so dim, it would have repelled moths. My 300 (stated lumen) hardware store flashlight cast a very bright beam over the 4900 lumen POS I recieved from Fasttech.

If it were a case of just needing a light for normal bike riding, so that cars could see me, it would suffice.

I had to move from my house 3 years ago to an apartment, and my puppy is 1/2 wolf (hence my nic) and to get her her daily exercise, I have her pull me on my bike. We do about 20K a day on average, @ 25 to 30 KPH. All year around. Unless the temp is lower than –20C. I live in Canada, and it gets very dark very early here in the winter.

The puppy/dogcycle in action.

At 30 kph+ at night, I need a decent light on the bike

patmurris has done a fantastic job getting many lights there corrected to more accurate descriptions.

This is my last hope, before I just write off the Fasttrech loss, and reorder the one above. I wish I had just done that in the first place, but in the last year, I have been buying other stuff from FT, and was completly unaware that fake LEDs even existed.

Thank You, I really enjoy this forum.

Definitely Latticebright fake crees.

Looks like a genuine XM-L there.

Can see those are LB fake XM-Ls from a mile away.

I know that it write Cree U2, but it is too small to be genuine Cree U2 ???

This is a genuine LB.

even though it may look like a pretty LED, like the other mentioned its definitely a Latticebright fake XM-L stuck to a Cree star.

Can anyone tell me if this is a genuine Cree XM-L? I bought this light from Fasttech.

From page 1. Note the size of the die in the center photo compared to yours, then compare them both to the authentic Cree on the right. Judging by this I’d have to say it is not a Cree XM-L:

For me is a Genuine LatticeBright.
