Red area.
That picture looks almost black on my computer monitor but when I copy it and put it in a photoshop kind of a program so I can lighten it I see that the sky isn’t dark yet and that you have it aimed at a telephone pole with a transformer over to the left of the barm.
I can see the emitter shape although I can’t tell if it’s fully focused (probably is). Again, it’s hard to tell too much from a photo as the camera could be letting in more light than our eye sees but it looks to me if that light was aimed at the barn it would get there and then some.
You’ve said the barn is 350 yards (or 320 meters) and it looks like that beam would do that and more if the picture is any indication. Personally I’d consider .5 lux a more reasonable standard and that would mean throw of about 400 meters.
How does that picture compare to what you see with your eyes? I’m referring to the picture on your camera. I know the picture I’m seeing on my computer screen isn’t what you’re seeing as everything overall is just too dark.
You do say that you’ve zoomed in however so that explains some of it. Is it your impression that that beam wouldn’t make it to the barn if aimed at it?
Ah, thanks. The picture was so large on my monitor that I didn’t even see that part of the picture.
I think it might be more realistic looking for those without this flashlight if the pictures weren’t zoomed in. None of these pictures look like we are looking at something 400 meters away.
Like I said there's a good chance that someone is going to get a complaint about this light and why now I have got 2 that seem to not live up to all the throw hype. I have already stated I am not impressed at all. I will wait till Mon or Tues to make my final decision. If I do get stuck wtih this light, it will more than likely be my last one.
And anyone here who wants to walk back to that barn to check my yardage is more than welcome to come out.
I have already sent Alan an email stating so far I'm not happy and my concern about this. Like I said this makes my 2nd one that don't seem to live up to why I bought it.
I don't understand either. My dbs-t aspheric will out-throw any XML light that you may have. It serves its purpose very well. Perhaps you have a bad pill? Try some good batteries that are freshly charged. Good luck.
I changed out the batteries and took it out for a spin right before I had to leave for work. It was about pitch dark. It hit the barn above with no problem so it seemed to me. And at 200yds it did good as well. I'll take some pictures Monday or Tues nite if weather permits and post them if that is ok with you guys and I don't have anyone critique my pictures on here. But I may have a good light afterall. Oh and I did fine tune the focus. So if I am in fact wrong, I will be the first to admit it for jumping the gun.
Gorann, if you bought it from solarforce-sales.com, they will take good care of you.
Hi there, I have also received my DBS-T Aspheric (1.5a ez900) a couple of days ago .
I am quite impressed with mine, I think it lives up to the hype.
My one suggestion would be to MAKE SURE ITS ON FULL / TACTICAL MODE.
I went out the other night with a few of my torches. At first i was a little dissapointed as it didnt appear to be working properly, it was only just out throwing my Fenix Tk11 R2/ led lenser H14. I had a fiddle with the adjustment thing and it turned out I didnt have it done up tight enough to be on tactical mode - as soon as i sorted that out - it lived up to the hype. (so it was in the non tactical mode, on low or med, im not sure which)
I think you should turn it OFF tactical mode, and work your way through the 3 modes (low/med/high) to make sure you are actually running it on high and to make sure it actually changes mode.
Sounds like your stuck in low or something.
Jay said he checks out all of the lights prior to shipping, including lux tests. That is what he says anyways. Seems like a quality vendor. He even sent me a replacement pill with return shipping for the other one that I had, because my ocd kicked in, and I had some kind of grease on the dome of the ez900 from manufacturing.

Hi nzlux,
Is that the 3SM pill you're talking about? Just wondering...

Slightly OT, but I've bought lights from a dozen different vendors and in my experience, from expertise to helpful suggestions to service, Jay at Flashlightconnection.com is as good as anyone out there. I have bought at least 8 lights from him and will continue to be a loyal customer.
More on topic, I haven't tried the aspherical lens yet, but I'm on a farm in the country and the DBS XR-E with smooth reflector is like a laser beam and will light up a deer standing against a treeline at 250 yards with ease. With an XM-L it lights up the far corners of an 8 acre pasture so there are no shadows or dark spots, and with Dereelight's MC-E pill and 2x 18350 batteries it is a hand cannon with great throw and flood. I use lights as outdoor tools, and for the combination of size and power the DBS is the best light I've found. I think I've just talked myself out of trying the aspherical lens!
Hi nzlux,
Is that the 3SM pill you're talking about? Just wondering...
Umm I believe mine is 2MT-M. (ordered direct off dereelight website, arrived 8 days after ordering, to NZ)
I assume yours is the same if you have the DBS-T, 1.5a that can change modes?
EDIT: i just looked at the dereelight website - it would seem the 3SM pill is not the "thrower" and is not what I have/is not what comes default with the aspherical head. Mine is powered by the XR-E R2 ez900 1.5a pill.
If you want the epic throw you need the little, tiny lumen output ez900
Man I can't wait until tonite around 7:00pm. That should be plenty dark by then. But we are supposed to have a snow storm coming.
2100, I have no idea where the emitter shape is in that picture. Can you describe where it is? Thanks. ILIKEFLASHLIGHTS, remember that the 600 meter figure is just the ANSI figure for throw and it’s based on only .25 lux at that distance.
I can't see Hikelite's picture...but it's right in the middle. This is the same spot lit up by HID. (LOL!)
And this is TK70. (not impressive huh....but mind you this is 400+ metres in my LP area....and it's not yards)
Again the Dereelight DBS EZ900 die 1.5A WD tint.
And yes below is the Solarforce MPP-1 with 2 x 18350s.... doesn't seem like much huh... This illustrates this is true 400+ metres dist. Forget about what XM-L throwers like TF X9, they don't do nothing.
But it seems like ILIKEFLASHLIGHT's copy is a bit low in intensity. Hmm.... Any chance of a tailcap current reading with 4.2V 2 X TF Flames 2400 cells? (make sure they are the decent performer ones, but TF Flames don't sag much actually (in fact XTAR 2600s sag much more) ....it is waaaaayyyy more than enough in this application because it would draw only about less than 0.8A.
I guess there just this "possibility".... shucks don't wanna say it. ILF went through a lot of trouble to get a good 7G5...
For the record, as long as the pill is able to take 2 cells, ie 8.4V, it is the thrower. Take a tail measurement, 0.75-0.8A, optimised. Don't care about 1 mode, 3 modes, 9 modes. Make it simple.
Well Alan told me if I want to send it back he would give me a full refund. I told him I would wait to be sure. Last nite it impressed me a lot more.
BTW, do confirm that you are going to focus it correctly. You can try with 50m targets, good enough. Just get a decent die image. +/-4% in lux doesn't matter, your eyes are NEVER going to be able to register the difference, just on the lux meter only.
Just troubleshooted a local flashaholic's DBS aspheric EZ900. Originally it was lousier than the STL-V2. LOL! He took my advice to get the Dereelight DBS, so i panicked a bit too.. hheh...
Actually I think you still can get a sharper die image. Look at mine...it's pretty sharp/defined...i mean the edges. It is supposed to be the shape of the XM-L emitter.
Ok boys we will call this 400yds. I'm zoomed in about halfway on 9x and it is lightly misting snow.
I think that's pretty impressive ILF, you happy with it now?
Help a noob out! I am confused about how you focus one if it is out of focus. Hey Brad, if you don't like it now you can donate it to me and I will dispose of it for you. I know how hard it would be for you to have to dispose of one of your babies. LOL
