Thoughts on a mini-lantern project... anyone interested in helping with a prototype build?

Of course DBSAR is the king of lantern conversions!, but here is my small collection.

I made a little lantern not so long ago, but it was quite some work and works on an Eneloop instead of a 18650:

I wanted to make a small lantern based on the Utorch UT01, with a campfire/candle colour temperature (2200K). There are not many leds in that colour temperature, I know that the Nichia E21 comes in that tint but Clemence does not have it (yet). So I came across this über-obscure led at RS-online, the Stanley Electric GSPW1651NSE-20Y-TR :party: . It is a 5050-size japanese mini-COB led with 6 parallel midpower leds in one tiny LES (datasheet). Rated at max 600mA, 85CRI and just 81 lm/W this led …

What is be easier to build and probably just as effective is the way I converted a Q8 into a lantern, should work for smaller lights just as well:

This is my take on a lantern attachment for he Q8. My girlfriend thinks it is ugly but I think it looks ok. [image] It is a 95-or-so% downlight which has advantages and disadvantages. When carrying it, very little light gets in your eyes directly from the lantern which aids looking around. When placed on a table it is a pleasant reading light for the same reason. But if you want to illuminate an area, it has to be hung up at some height because having it sitting on the ground it will just illu…
