Three new Sportac XHP35 dropins for P60

This pretty much sums up why I think a simple UI drop-in pushing this much power is a solution looking for a problem.
I know it’s different for others here but I wouldn’t trust something I built to be bulletproof reliable. That’s what people smarter and more skilled than me are for. Drop-ins included in the “built by my clumsy hands” category.

With it being unlikely this is potted, potential fragility of the driver, etc. I just… don’t see the appeal over a PflexPro, Surefire, etc.

Wellp, I have no idea what’s in ’em, so can’t say one way or another.

Tom Tom, what makes you an expert on P60 guy? Your posts have been flaming posters period. Implying they have no knowledge about P60. Texas Shooter posted notifying people of new releases from Sportac. Others and myself have posted about and giving insight about P60. You decide to play ” expert ” thinking you know everything about P60 drop ins. Not cool.

But, but, but, rocket scientist…

Hardly. You started this at post #2 where you instantly dissed the new drop-ins, based on a typically blinkered view of price instead of value. In case you haven’t guessed, I like and use and understand the limitations of these things. And if they are from Sportac they will be rugged, potted or otherwise.

The OP gave us a heads-up about these, which was nice. But then the likes of you instantly piled in to tell us how cr(a)p and mis-conceived and worthless they were. In your opinion.

Not nice.

So much negativity, and it is not coming from me. I like these. Do you get that ?

Illumination Gear E-mailed back that there will be more with different LED’s and colors in the coming weeks.

I see some bickering going on here, some from myself. For this I apologize. These items are not for everyone. To walk the dogs I take the latest toy to play with. On duty gear only those tools that are proven with a great track record. These dropins are on the toy side until a long time of use to make the tool list. This is how I look at these. Different people have different needs.

I have maybe 5 or 6 sportac triples, 219b and 219c mainly(one xp-g2). All dual mode bar one single 219b triple thats in the MD2. This is with a hi/lo ring CRX fixed and fitted a 10ohm resistor(i think!) either way its around 20-25lm ish on lo. I use the 650lm pretty much all the time when walking the dog, just a perfect easy on the eye 4500k .

Ones in work, another 219b triple but dual mode(20% works well at around 140lm )has took countless drops over the years. I mean a lot of a beating. This one here from a 20ft drop off a scissor lift.

Not had one fail yet, potted or not. I have high confidence in these simple made drop ins. The xhp35 HI has my interest, but when some 4000-5000k come available. 6000k a bit too cool for me these days unfortunately(can live with, just prefer a more neutral beam if given the choice).

Cheers!

I’ve got a trick for you. Take the head off and then unscrew the bezel and remove the lens. Place that triple dropin where the lens would go the screw the bezel back on without the lens. It’ll almost screw all the way down. Place head back on body. It’ll now fit an unprotected 18500 in a L2M host. Very little thermal path but it still works well without and heat issues.

Very cool! I have took the optics out before now and used as a mule(the xp-g2 works best i have found…………perfect mule, the 219b does have slight artefacts on my samples ,without optics). Also trimmed the plastic polarity protection off to use flat tops as well as button on most of my sportacs.

Thanks for this post Mr OP, I’ve looked at some other sportac dropin’s but not sure exactly where, but they didn’t seem to click for me, but these do, and the price is right on for sure. $40 is not much at all.
I’ve just bought my first modular lights a SolarForce and one from Seraph, I think I bought a PD1 and a couple L2T’s one being the S.S. and something else M3…?? L2P…??? Or all of them most likely, SF had a huge sale recently.
Been looking at the Cryos head from the manufacturer and talking with him and the great people at OR and then the fella from pflexpro has been over the top helpful and convinced me that his quad with brass bucket is what I need for my shelf queen build with the Cryos head and tailcap and I agreed completely so buying two from him at least, one for the shelf queen build, his dropin’s look like they are bullet proof, seriously, I’ve never seen anything quit like that.
I also want a light that will eat what I feed it as LB mentioned so that will be the third build light and will be able to take a beating. I want a light that I don’t care what happens just as long as it still puts out light when I need it. 2 mode is perfect.

Edit: Hey, High Ven, yep I’m still at it and still waiting on more parts, you were the best help for sure, Thanks again…

Haha enjoy T18, imo can’t go too wrong with sportac . I have triples , quads coming out of my ears as you know, but I have 5 maybe 6 sportac triples……can’t be too bad! Not for everyone it seems, but flashlights would be boring if we all liked the same.

It is always so great every time I see one of your posts, everything I think I know now I am certain I have gotten that info from you or from one of your many many posts at many different forums, even Scooby ha ha who would have thought, and you did help me to boil it all down to where it was simply understood, it was at first so seemingly complicated with all the aftermarket parts and so forth.
I think if not for your help I would still be wandering around aimlessly and then when I had finally decided that I was buying the right gear had it not been for your help, insight and pictures I would have most likely would have been extremely disappointed in what I might have bought,
You are the modular expert for sure, ha ha I have a complete book, The Book of Ven, … ha
Later Pal…

Haha, thank you for very kind words. There are many far more knowledgeable than me. I just enjoy these tools quite possibly the most. I also like the size, like a good flashlight size if makes sense. Not too small in hand…………….times i want to hold a good size light, not something that disappears in hand or can get lost easy.

Nope, get your facts right guy. My post refers to cost factor and output VS higher output lights and cost effective of P60

Look at you own posts in detail guy before making comical worthless reply.

Sportac xhp35 HI neutral is very nice, more than happy with. Guess around 4000k to my eyes . 2 mode, low around 250 ish which is a good do it all level for me, the high seems a little more intense than the ZL 600 HI 4500k. The latter looks white compared, hence my guess closer to 4000k as it has a golden/warm edge in comparison.

Fits nicely in the MD2

Next to an m61……………pretty much exact shape, so fits nice in surefire hosts, solarforce no issue with the more available head room

I’m guessing from what I can read on those pictures you got, the Pro series. Any current readings you can post on high/low?

I’ve got a coupla oold dropin No Names. plus2 x Ultrafire C8’s.
One started Q8, one a XM-L. Both now XP-L hi. and magic little throw arounds.
Great little Hi-Lo-Flash. and if they calk. Bin.

I just keep ’em near door for visitors.

To me. that drop in sounds real interesting toy
for a 18650/26650 no name drop-in torch I’ve had for donkeys,
just sitting in drawer waiting.
X’Mas Pressy for self hey.
It’ll go nicely with the Copper Olight I3T EOS I have here in hand.
Serial No 7236. 2018.
They made quite a few for a limited number run hey.

Yes correct, the pro xhp35 HI neutral white. I think it is 4300k, but to my eyes closer to 4000k. Its very nice on the eye anyway, does make the 4500k zebra HI look white in a side by side. The sportac is more golden in tint which i find nice.

I dont have much success reading amps unfortunately with the fluke, probably the leads giving me low reading. The hot spot is more intense compared to the zebra, has a little deeper reflector and is SMO , where as the ZL has slight OP. To my eyes they are close enough to be with in 200 lumens, in the sportacs favour. But that is by eye and a bit useless .

I have snipped the plastic polarity protection ring off, to allow flat top use(do on all my sportacs). This i think is my 8th(4x219b,2x219c,1x xp-g2 and xhp35 HI). Not had any fails, some used in anger more than others with countless drops…………

The 13% level around the 250lm mark is perfect for me as a do it all level, its enough for most uses. The 100% is pretty impressive, even from the restrictive p60 reflector. Its like a malkoff m61 on steroids……………

It didnt like the twisty surefire UI, so swapped for another cap with a McClicky in and works perfect. So a 6p is its home for now.

Other 6p’s, sportac triple next to the xhp35 HI

I’ve got a coupla old SKYRAY S-R5’s . One started Q8, one a XM-L.
Both now XP-L hi. and magic little throw arounds.
Great little Hi-Lo-Flash. and if they calk. Bin.Coupla old

Cool Macka, not sure what illumination gear have left right now, the neutrals did not last that long. Hopefully they will get more stock or maybe other options. I tend to go for the 2 mode, just a little more flexible for me and my type of uses. I also like the fact i am not clicking through modes as that grows old fast. Saying that, i tend to program my h17f drivers to a single do it all(most of )level for that single mode ease. The other group tends to be a low/med/high with a low that is usable for most stuff(no memory). By that, around 60-80lm type of low. But i dont do sub lumen stuff, for me its useless. Rather squint for a few seconds and actually see the stairs than one faint step as a silly example. I digress anyway

the cu olight looks very nice :sunglasses:

My son still has his 2 skyway kings , still work, still get used and must be ……………5yrs old or near that. They have outlasted many more expensive lights over the years. They have not been beat on, but they work!
