Thrunite TN-32 thread

Well, they did it - cranked up the amps to about 4.5 to 5A I'm speculating based on the runtime quoted of 1.5 hrs, where the TN31 does 2 hours. Our de-domed 5.5A - 6.5A modded versions do about 1,700, but that's de-domed - with dome, would do about 2,000. That massive chrome plated copper heat sink looks interesting, truly unique in a stock light.

Drooool…

No stupid timed out turbo mode too. No idea what the throw truly is. 132 kcd but only 727 meters, so lower than the TN31 XM-L2 in distance, but much higher in kcd ??? What are they think'n? Well, we know the true kcd # on the TN31 XM-L2 is about 130 kcd 150 kcd, so this one should be quite a bit higher, maybe 180 kcd or so, I'm guessing...

My TN31 XM-L2 suddenly feels soo redundant. :frowning:

Impressive ! But its a very bad news for modders business.

hmmmm someone needs to tell Vinh about this one!

I wonder if there’s any room left to push it farther.

I’m sure he’s fully aware of it, there’s a TN-32 announcement thread just like this one on CPF.

I’m sure there’s value to custom modded lights, such as the fact that you’re talking to a human and you specifically know how the light has been improved. (Well, thinking about it… ;))

Of course it can be pushed further - de-doming to double the throw. I'm thinking they up'ed the amps with resistor changes, maybe changed other things to improve reliability with handling higher current. So actually, it should make it even better to bridge the resistors, unless they did something explicitly to hinder that. Also for 5.5-6.5A with the resistor bridging, this TN-32 is so much better with that big copper heat sink.

I see this as good news for modding... But ultimately, we need to get one and see for sure how it handles it, and what the results are.

The 500 kcd mod for the TN31 is a very easy mod, actually. Those $10 budget light full mods are much more challenging, more time consuming, and more expensive.... Smile

The TN31 mod to 500 kcd is almost no cost in parts, though I'd prefer changing the XM-L2 U2 1C to an XM-L2 U2 1A. So, costs $5 in parts, plus the heavier gauge wires...

I just noticed the chrome plated copper heatsink. Truly looks nice!

Although in the photos it doesn’t seem like the MCPCB is directly in contact with it…?

I believe that chromed out assembly is the pill, so yes, the PCMCB (thick, big copper w/direct thermal path) is in direct contact.

Oh sorry, I forgot that the mode selector dial was just a ring.

It would be really nice to have a GB on these very nice copper pills, although I’m not sure if ThruNite would do it since it would kill its TN-32 sales.

My TN30 came in a cardboard box, :frowning: (ordered from Thrunite) I wonder if these will have the metal case?

Just when I was thinking I'd get a K40 to mod, they go and do a copper pill.

I was about to order one of the new Eagletac offerings, but I think I will pull the trigger on this one.

completely unrelated, but i wonder if putting this new chunk of copper in a tn30 with 3xml2s and driving them like a super shocker would be a possibility for thrunite

HKequipment has it now. $180. There's a coupon that takes $10 off.

please share coupon

All their coupons are on their site. Bottom left.

Are the reflector diameter and depth the same as the TN31? Those are the major game changers in a throwy light.

I’m thinking if it’s the same then it would be able to be matched with just a resistor mod on a TN31.
