Having bought this light, the review is wrong about any 21700 button top battery being used, at least without modification. The plastic insulator that is in the light prevents most 21700 protected cells positive buttons from contacting the positive terminal ring in the head. I tried several, and none worked. Even the similar O-light modified batteries do not work. Removing the plastic insulator ring is the key, and then covering the negative contact on the positive side of the Thrunite modified cells with insulator rings. That allowed the use of orbtronic protected cells, which would not work without removal of the plastic insulator ring. The Thrunite proprietary has a longer than normal positive post button top compared to the orbtronic cells.

The battery that shipped with my TN42 V2 is different from any of the other previous models of 21700 from Thrunite (that typically had the feature your talking about). It’s true you need a long battery but it’s also stiffly sprung. The negative on the positive end of the battery isn’t being used here, if you look at the head design there is no where for it to make contact or no where for the previously designed battery to make contact either.

Here is the battery from the Thrunite TT20 which clearly has that insulating ring around the positive button of the 21700 https://i.imgur.com/SWdfrrI.jpg It’s similar to the Olight battery that you mention.

That would be the big plastic insulating ring next to the brass conductor ring in the head being held in by 3 phillips screws. It is taller than the brass conductor the positive posts contact, so the thrunite proprietary batterey has talller center button post than most batteries to be able to make contact while still preventing a short by the negative on the positive side which touches the black insulator ring in the head. Have you tried to insert other 21700 button top batteries like the orbtronic ones? I have, they will not work until I removed the black insulator ring.
