Tiny USB lights

Is it USB-c? Standard? I don’t understand what they plug into.

Most of these lights are Type A male plugs but without the typical metal shroud.

I played with some of these a while back. Got a bunch (like 50pc) for next to nothing (like $5, or $0.10 each) but they were cool white. I had a bunch of 2700K Samsung LEDs I also got for nothing on closeout at Arrow (again, like $0.10 per LED).

I reflowed the Samsung LEDs as shown, and boom and nice WW color temp. Added a bit of conformal coating and I sold them for like $5/ea to backpackers/campers (warm white is SOOOO much nicer when camping). Made like 2000% profit, lol.

Thank you to all who’ve contributed to this thread! There are so many practical uses for these little lights but the opinions of BLF members are far more reliable than comments on a product page. With USB outlets everywhere these little lights will have a big wow factor when needed.

Yes… Thanks to all who helped in this thread.

If anyone knows about any other not posted yet… Let all of us know.

I am also a big fan of these lights! And I want more!!

Thanks, that’s nice. Alu PCB, many LEDs…
But Micro USB is a problem, it’s mechanically very weak.
So I started searching for a similar Type A board. I failed but I found smaller variants of the same (8~~“:http://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000303229789.html, ”12~~, 16-LED)

I also found this:

Nice you’re the first one to report a LED swap.
Your boards look brighter than stock despite having just a single LED. The new one probably has much lower Vf…
But you overpaid for that LEDs. :stuck_out_tongue:

I found 4x5050 with driver:

Smaller than 6*5630 but I’ve seen that the 5630 lights are called 1W and this is just 0.5W.

However I found a smaller 6-LED  :

Not-so-tiny variant (I’ve seen it with 8, 15, 18 or 21 LEDs):

Some are even available with reversible Type A plugs:

BTW I just noticed that I didn’t write down my experiences with the tint-changing lights.
I don’t like them.
The simpler UI of WW touch variant is what I like the most so far. I have a feeling that the smaller variant will replace it as my favourite.

Wow! Thanks!!!

Not tiny, but cute:

I found some warm ones on Amazon, but some of the reviews warned that it would damage the USB port, does anybody have any experience with this yet?

This one has 2 sets of emitters (WW/CW or WW/green) and activates different group depending on the orientation in the USB port:

Interesting…

Anyone with high power?? I mean… Using the max allowable current of the USB?? … 0.5A or even better… 1A??

I know the xtar UL-1 and a 3$ zooming available on ebay that has 3 modes… But… Obviously… They are not… “Tiny”

Kaidomain has a number of unusual variants .
This one has some ICs, so it may be the smallest light with modes:

A small variant that has white LEDs and something else:

http://kaidomain.com/LED-Gadgets/USB-LED-Lights-or-Badges/S023346-Soshine-Mini-USB-Power-3-LED-Night-Light-Light-Control
According to KD it’s 1W, but Soshine says 0.5W:

And it says this variant offers “light control”. I have no idea what does it mean, I would think “you can control this light” or in other words “it has UI” - but there’s other variant with no “light control” but “touch dimmer”.

That tiny LED on the other side is used as a light sensor.
It turns on when it’s dark (and off when it’s light).
With the little potentiometer you can adjust the sensitivity.
They work kind of okay, i have 1 or 2 somewhere.

Cool!
So the thing at the front is a potentiometer rather than a red LED?

Does this thing have a dimmer?

I have some six led versions in cool & warm white & dimable bought them a couple of years ago from AliExpress ,I can’t remember how much but they were very cheap ,I’ve never really used them ,I just got them because they were cheap :money_mouth_face:

Yep.

Nope…

You scared me, I never like to overpay! lol. I went back to my account, and saw I did pay ~$0.03/pc (50pc for $1.67 was what I paid) I ordered because someone on BLF posted the deal. Surprisingly the LED is still on Arrow website listed as “discontinued” but price is now up to $0.10/pc. My memory was also wrong on the CCK, it was 3000K, not 2700K.

I’ve got these yesterday:

They are as small as my filed ones and have potential to be minimized as well.
I need more experience to tell whether I like them (the UI seemed flaky) but the initial impression is good.

Stepless dimming?

How much lumens do you estimate? About 80?
