Thanks for the photo sturr.
Did the driver mod I mentioned in #760 now. Great increase of performance; only 5% below the TK35.
Has anyone tried this mod? Seems too good/easy to be true.
thanks!!!
drivers and light dispatched.
will be attempted within a week of arrival.
Hi, from what I've seen it appears that the housing and battery holder are the same, but the emitter appears to be different from the Fenix TK35 emitter. I haven't seen the electronics yet, but considering the price, this is almost certaintly another super cheap emitter like inside every other cheap Chinese light. Which makes it a cheap chinese light with a TK35 body. I'm really looking forward to someone like the guys at GoingGear to review this clone and show how it compares in a real time video to the Fenix. If anyone has seen any videos of the clone, could you post a link? Thanks a lot, Jerry
jerry9160 I've seen a few beam shot videos. Here's a quick youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hKOpb9P9kc
Welcome to the club, jerry9160.
TK35 clone no holster $30.80 usd shipped.
I got mine from a local reseller in Taiwan, and it appears to be real XM-L emitter, the machining is alright, but the copy I got does not seem to fair very well during the trip from manufacturer to me. There were markings all over the place, scratches, lousy attempts at painting over the marks with black paint and so on.
Inside, I took apart the emitter assembly and found the thing just as badly assembled, burrs, and other craps are not cleaned properly. So I desoldered the wires, cleaned up the burrs, wiped it all down with ethanol, then reapply thermal grease, cleaned up the solder spots (Sucked away the excess solder, and reapplied new ones to let it form in to the classic “volcanic” cone shape). Then I replaced the flimsy wiring with nice teflon insulated silver plated wire.
I don’t think the wire would make up a huge difference, but it gives me peace of mind knowing that there are no burrs that will cut through the wire’s insulation, and teflon won’t age and fail like the cheap wire’s insulation will.
I’m planning on getting the batteries this afternoon, and will see how the light works out, and see how the seller is going to do about the damage on the coating of the unit.
I’d say it is a classic el-cheapo chinese product, if you don’t open it up, everything will look just nice and dandy. If you do open it up, it would be a good idea to have tools close by to clean it up properly. As most of us are unlikely to put it back with that much crap everywhere INSIDE the unit
…
I didn’t disassemble it, because that’s not my strong suit. But I did figure I’d buy it to see if I liked the size and shape, since the side by side battery setup is getting popular. Mine has 3 or 4 bad machine marks that make me wish I got the black one.
I really like it, a lot as a garage light. It’s nice that it always starts on low.
It's good to have you here, zycamaniac!
hahaha, that’s cute. The maniac is actually referring to the maniac in Wing Commander.
