I ordered mine from Hank because he was only one with green body color. Ordered 8/21, Shipped 8/23 and is showing it just arrive at JFK in NYC USA 8/28. Also had 3 emails with Hank and all were responded to in 24 hours. First time ordering from Int’l Outdoor and have no affiliation with this company. FWIW. Tracking site he gave me is different. Go to http://en.4px.com/. Choose tracking tab instead of login. To confirm you are not a robot, provide them with the answer to the simple math question in funny colored area, e.g. “7 x 7 =” you type “49”. Hope this is helpful to someone. I decided on Nicha version even though not high CRI since I perfer all white to white with slight yellow hot spot and light purple corona. After the S42 fiasco, which is useable and has nice tint, I am looking forward to the D4. Also have a SS version of S41 and love it. Just very heavy. Cheers!

For those who are waiting on the D4 from Hank. I got both mine today, one Green Nichia and one Black XP-L Hi V3 1A. They have been “hanging” on the tracking since August 8th, but now they are both in the house. So give it a little more time, they should not be far away. Good luck…

I stopped paying for/ checking any packages from China a while back.
China tracking is never accurate. I just tell myself “it will be here in a month”.
Then if it comes any earlier its a happy surprise.
I have yet to have a package not come.

Question for any willing and able to answer:
I am STRONGLY considering this light to replace my Zebralight SC62w (which I REALLY like and still works flawlessly). It obviously gets pretty darn hot on it’s highest setting too, and ramps down pretty quickly (and only starts at a little below 1000 lumens if IIRC), although it is renowned for it’s heat management for the size. So I think my question is:
For those that have one of these, what would you say is the highest output, lumen-wise, that the D4 can sustain and still be comfortable to hold for more than a few seconds? Can it run comfortably at say 1200 lumens for a couple of minutes or can you really only hold on to it (without gloves) at around 600 lumens?
I’ve tried reading this thread as well as others to answer this for myself…but can’t seem to come to a conclusion based on what I’ve seen. I think I understand that it “regulates” itself well in terms of ramping down for protection. It’s obviously a pocket rocket and can burst over 3000 lumens for a moment. But, if use of it beyond 20 seconds or so is going to be limited well below 1000 lumens, there may not be a benefit I can justify spending the $40 on (if it ever comes back in stock……and yes…I’m still VERY tempted regardless). If I didn’t already have and like the Zebralight, it would probably be a no-brainer.

Until someone with better measuring ability chimes in, here is my 2 cents…
Unfortunately, my only lumen measuring capability at this time is a ceiling bounce app calibrated with a few known output lights. Not very accurate I’m sure. So ymmv…
Also depending on what emitters you have, this will effect the thermal ramping somewhat.
Imo, from a cold start, the xpl version will stay on 4000+ lumens for up to 15-20 seconds if you’re holding the majority of its head with your hand, longer with a good alum gun mount system. Make no mistake, turbo 4000+lumen is a short burst mode only.
Got my thermal reg set at 138°-140° free standing outside of head temp set with infrared thermometer. If you go by blinky count in thermal reg mode it says 68°c is my set point. It takes about 30-60 seconds for head to stabilize there. And iirr, in that first minute it steps down twice to about 1000-1300 lumen depending on what emitter. The tube stays below 115-120° for a few minutes, from a cold start.
In a couple minutes it will end up at 500-1300 lumen thermal regulation depending if it is hand held, free standing or gun mount with aluminum mounting system with arctic silver used.
Once it fully ramps down the heat starts to dissipate and temps go down, you can ramp up the lumen again, it won’t automatically ramp back up by itself…
Another consideration is the battery used. This light needs the best battery to get the big lumen for any substantial length of time. And even then, it sucks it down like a 10 second car doing the 1/4 mile.
‘They’ say anything over 140° for more then 6 seconds can cause scalding burns, ymmv…

Would it be possible for you to ramp it up to about 1000-1500 lumens (from cold start) by your self-described “crude” measuring tools and tell us how long you can hand hold it comfortably (bare handed) and if it ramps down BEFORE you decide it’s uncomfortable? If it does ramp down, about to what point lumen-wise and how long does it take before it does that?
If NOT possible or desirable, obviously no problem.

Just been to local depot and demanded it, so I have the 6500k XPL version. I can see visually it’s brighter than the E14 II. The Manker gets hotter faster too.
TBH this D4 is stepping down too soon out of the box. My hand can take more as it’s used to the X80 and E14 II.

Short tube, 5.46A for 1031.55 lumens in Turbo, 0.69 lumens in moon. Bwaaaahaahaahahahahaha!
Edit: My Bad, I forgot to say I now have 4 XP-E2 Green Cree emitters in the Green D4. Figured the pictures spoke for themselves. At only 5.46A, it still gets stupid hot much faster than I would have thought, 15-20 seconds!

Well, I’ve been welding/brazing since a young teen, so my hands can and have taken a lot of heat. I can hold this little D4 mA suker pretty much no matter what it wants to do…lol
But to answer your question, ramp to about 2/3 full, probably 700-1000 lumen, imo at this power level most real men(lol) could hold it till battery goes out. Infrared thermometer says head temp gets no higher then 115° in the few minutes I just tried this. So don’t think thermal reg will kick at this power level on xpl d4.
My D4, with 4 XP-E2 green, and a 18350 cell, is making 142.6ºF just now before I shut it off. This, at the finned head beside the switch.
