Makers of electronic products with built-in batteries should be forced to design them in a way such that battery packs can be removed without much trouble.
I really don’t buy the excuse from cellphone makers that cases can’t be thin if there’s a user removable battery. Well, that’s from the design standpoint of having a “hatch.” The whole rear panel of the phone could be removable, so there’s no hatch to speak of. Once off there’s easy access to a battery with two non-soldered attachment points.
Also, there should be a better facilitation of lithium ion battery disposal at the local level. For a while, places like Staples and Home Depot had bins for disposal of devices with lithium batteries. I don’t see them any longer.
