Ultratac A1 on Amazon. AA or 14500 600 lumen tail clicky. $11.95

Just got mine today. The tint is not as cold as I thought it would be. It’s quite pleasant actually. I would probably say about 5300K or so. Not to far off my 5000K nichia light I compared it to. Works good, feels good. Feels like Lumintop Tool AA quality. Tint is warmer than the Tool AA as well.

Forthcoming review?

Does it at least tail stand?

Yes sir, sure does. Nice and stable.

Yeah, I can probably pull that off in the next day or so. Been a month or so since I have done one.

Thanks. I grabbed one. I was debating between this A1 and ThorFire TG06S which is on sale for $11.50 right now, but TG06S supposedly has pretty bad PWM.

Has anyone been able to verify yet if the low mode on the A1 really is 1 LM when using AA/NIMH cell? Many manufacturers claim 1 LM, but in reality it’s usually higher.

The old question from Europe: is there a non-Amazon source for the A1 ?

Low is super low with a nimh in it. I would definitely say around 1 if not just a bit lower. It is not much brighter than the moon mode on a Reylight AA.

Received my first UltraTac A1 yesterday and my first impression is that it has exceptional quality. The feel and finish is outstanding. I love the way the cross-hatching is segmented on the body and tail cap. My wife agreed with me and immediately took possession of it. This is a great enforcement since she is really not a flashlight person and just tolerates my flashlight enthusiasm and purchases. So, to keep her on my side, I allow her to cherry pick any flashlight in my collection that she wants. Well, she took to this one immediately and has it is now setting on her night stand with a NiMH battery installed and the diffuser attached.

To me, this is an ideal alkaleak, NiMH, or primary lithium AA flashlight because of the mode spread when using them. I love the one-lumen Low mode which works very well with the diffuser to give you a power-saving small amount of ambient light in a confined area. You could very well use it as a night light. But the 30 lumen medium mode and 200 lumen high mode are available if you need more.

The closest flashlight that the A1 compares to size-wise IMHO is the Lumintop Tool AA with its click tail cap. They are both the same diameter (18 mm), but the A1 measures 85.5 mm in length and the Tool AA is longer at 91 mm. Interestingly, the A1 is slightly heavier at 27 grams versus 23.5 grams for the Tool AA. They both use the XP-L LED but the Tool AA has a color temperature of about 6500K whereas the AI is noticeably warmer - around the same as my Sofirn SF14 which as a 5350- 5700 K range.

Both flashlights have Low ->Med->High modes with no strobe and no memory. They both start out in Low. They both have tempered glass lenses with an anti-reflective coating, and an IPx8 rating. The A1 seems to have a somewhat shallower orange peel lens whereas the Tool AA lens is smooth.

Here's were it really gets subjective: The A1 beam is mostly homogeneous across its diameter and fades evenly at the edges. It is more comfortable to look at that the Tool AA Beam that has a bright center and a segregated spill area around it. To me, it appears that the Tool AA beam might have a touch of off-putting green in the center.

Agree with all points and will add that the UltraTac A1 can head stand with the diffuser so you are not getting blasted by the corona.
Perfect nightlight on low.

It is now my current EDC replacing the Zanflare F3 which is AAA and is great but eats through the AAA pretty fast on high, has no quick step down so she will burn until low voltage forces lower steps.

Anyway this UltraTac A1 flashlight is going to be this years fun gift to muggle friends.
Just need a killer code to get me to stock up on extras now.
Incredible build quality for such a low price point.

Later,
Keith

Might be a tolerances thing that varies from light to light, but my A1 certainly doesn’t tail stand…at least not stably. The nubs on the tail clicky prop it up just enough to make it unstable. You can feel them catch like an eraser.

Still an excellent light for the price though.

Well that’s a bummer. Well maybe the clicky will get all broke in and give you a bit of space for tail standing. Yes, I think for the price it is definitely hard to beat. I especially like the modes with a NiMh or primary.

Just got mine today. Mine tail stands just fine. Very nice little light, especially for the price paid. The diffuser has some lume in it - cool.

I got mine today too. No problem with a tail stand. The modes and the spacing are very good using a AA, haven’t tried a 14500 yet.
Always starts in low, nice  .

Are my eyes playing tricks or did your A1 come in blue? If so, how did you manage this? Thanks!

If you are still planning on doing a review you may want to contact UltraTac and see if they will give you a promotional discount code to include at the end - just a thought.

Toddcshoe, thanks for your efforts on this thread! IMHO, the UltraTac A1 is a real winner and you helped to bring it to the attention of a lot of BLFers.

BTW, both of my A1s (I should say my wife's and my A1s) tail stand fine, but the rubber tail cap cover one one of them does contact the surface. Since an extra tail cap cover is included with the A1, how would one go about replacing it? Or, maybe it can be re-seated.

I may have gotten the while balance wrong. Is this better?

Yes, it looks black now. But I do like the way it look when it seemed blue! Thanks

I just paid $17 for one :frowning: but that does include shipping to the UK.

I own this light and I like it. Outshines Lumintop and Thrunite AA’s lights. Color temp is neutral, nice transition from center spot to flood, led is perfectly centered. Runs great on 14500. Well built, clicky has a nice feel. There is nothing that says to me “cheap”.

That’s my $.02

Cheers
