[Updated 2023-02-10] Migration complete

Does Discourse support signatures?

I noticed that https://blfdev.site doesn't seem to have people's signatures.

Hmm you’re right, and yes it appears to only happen in HTML (Advanced Post Editor) posts that use a specific height and width like <img src="https://i.imgur.com/UceteGw.jpg">
Discourse displays the image correctly with just the raw link i.e. just https://i.imgur.com/UceteGw.jpg
I could fix those instances by adding another line of code to the importer script, but I’m not sure if that will be a common issue. I’ll make note of it, thanks for the useful feedback.

I was wondering if you would ask that. Let’s just say it doesn’t natively support them.

Most of my posts with stretched pictures used the simple editor

The Simple Editor also allows exact image dimensions, but I thought that they were discarded during the conversion process. Could you please send me a link to a post with stretched images that was created with the Simple Editor? Appreciate it.

The one I linked , or any in this thread really, they’re all stretched :

OK thanks. Looks like it might be best to remove all image height / width properties during import, as Discourse handles that better on its own.

Reset password, logged in and did a test post! :+1:

Thank you sir!

Everything works! Well done!

my username stayed the same, my Avatar imported too.

did not need to change password because I logged in with the link sent to my email instead…

I can post replies without issues.

congrats on your progress :+1:

Excellent, thanks a lot for confirming. :+1:
I seem to remember that you were using an older iOS device that no longer receives updates and there was concern that it wouldn’t be supported in the new forum engine, did that get resolved?

Im still on a 2015 iMac and maxed out on the highest update it allows, IOS 10.12.6

the anticipated problem seems to have been a false alarm… no issues Im aware of

Ah, an iMac. That would be macOS rather than iOS, correct? At any rate, from what I understand that shouldn’t be an issue because even if Safari can’t be updated anymore in the case of macOS you can install a modern third-party browser like Firefox.

The bigger problem would be an old iOS mobile device that no longer gets updates; in that case even installing a third-party browser would make no difference because all browsers for iOS use the Safari (Webkit) engine. Fortunately Apple supports their devices for a fairly long time, but it’s still likely that some devices will outlast Apple’s software lifecycle.

You’re right! :+1:

on iMac, I do use Firefox… it also works in Safari

and it also works on my 2017 iPhone 8 w IOS 14.5.1

I made a test post using the iMac, and was able to edit the post using iPhone…

To log in w the iPhone I used the email link, instead of changing password… same as I did w the iMac, works great!

no problems reading and posting…

thank you for all your efforts

Very good, I’m really glad it’s working for you.

The new site works seamlessly. I can also post images, no issues at all :person_with_crown:

here is the testpost:

I did the password reset and logged in fine.
My PM’s seem to be imported okay.
A brief scroll through some randomly selected topics looks fine too.
Other than that not much time to look around today.

Thanks a lot Don, just whenever you have more time let me know if you run across anything. The random perusal method is good for finding little issues.

I know I’m missing something obvious but how do you mark all topic as being read similar to the Mark Read button on the current site?

Actually it doesn’t exist. Discourse does have quite a few ways to help you keep track of what you have and haven’t read already, such as this last visit marker line:

There’s also an indicator of new activity in posts you’ve already read. Also a New button will appear when there are new threads, and those can be dismissed:

You can configure the New list behavior too:
