The Simple Editor also allows exact image dimensions, but I thought that they were discarded during the conversion process. Could you please send me a link to a post with stretched images that was created with the Simple Editor? Appreciate it.
Excellent, thanks a lot for confirming. :+1:
I seem to remember that you were using an older iOS device that no longer receives updates and there was concern that it wouldnât be supported in the new forum engine, did that get resolved?
Ah, an iMac. That would be macOS rather than iOS, correct? At any rate, from what I understand that shouldnât be an issue because even if Safari canât be updated anymore in the case of macOS you can install a modern third-party browser like Firefox.
The bigger problem would be an old iOS mobile device that no longer gets updates; in that case even installing a third-party browser would make no difference because all browsers for iOS use the Safari (Webkit) engine. Fortunately Apple supports their devices for a fairly long time, but itâs still likely that some devices will outlast Appleâs software lifecycle.
I did the password reset and logged in fine.
My PMâs seem to be imported okay.
A brief scroll through some randomly selected topics looks fine too.
Other than that not much time to look around today.
Thanks a lot Don, just whenever you have more time let me know if you run across anything. The random perusal method is good for finding little issues.
Actually it doesnât exist. Discourse does have quite a few ways to help you keep track of what you have and havenât read already, such as this last visit marker line:
Thereâs also an indicator of new activity in posts youâve already read. Also a New button will appear when there are new threads, and those can be dismissed:
I did see that âlast visitâ as well as the new activity indicator and theyâre very helpful.
One thing I didnât see in the comments/new topic boxes was a Preview option. Given my ability to make numerous mistakes that option has been very helpful to me in BLF. In addition it allows me to see that images are properly sized and links are formatted correctly before I save the post. Thatâs not available in Discourse?
Not only is preview available but it updates automatically as you edit. Itâs in the pane to the right of the editor. You may have to dismiss an initial message that covers it.
PS. There is also an indicator at the bottom of the thread when people are writing a reply.
Thanks phouton. Yeah, I agree with SIGShooter on this one, I wish that the new user tips didnât completely cover the preview, it makes the preview not very discoverable for new users.
Also for mobile users, notice that depending on your screen size the preview might be hidden by default, and it can be accessed with the icon that looks like a computer screen.
