WARNING: Cometa – read/fix BEFORE inserting battery

Hi.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

CW leds have normally more emitter lumens per watt than the same model NW led. Keeping in mind the reflector will be the same on CW Cometa or NW Cometa, that means the CW Cometa will produce more throw, as it has more lumens.

Is that right or not?

The throw depends of the emitter lumens? Or it depends of the colour spectrum of the led? If there is any study about human eye sensivity regarding the color spectrum?

Does the human eye really feel the difference between 1000 lumens, and 1050 lumens? And between 1000 and 1100 lumens? Where is the jump, where is the point to feel the difference in these quantities?

On approximately the same tint a 20% brighter light is not that visible bouncing off a white wall a few feet away, at 20-30 feet it is more visible but not that much. See my new C8s review HERE for a driver of 2.4A on the old model VS a 3A on the new C8s. The old one is no slouch, the new is just better.

I think the CW vs NW will only make a difference on paper if they are the same or one bin apart… The example above is a 20% difference… I doubt it will be this much loss for the NW…

Count me in for one (1) piece of CW .

Are there any photos of the front side ?

Edit : Found on the review

Please put me down for (1) NW please, thank you!

Thanks for the info. Which 18650 and 26650 would be most recommended for highest light output over an approximately 30 min period (for light painting)? Runtime and price are not relevant for this question.

Just order two of these mate.

I personally wouldn’t bother with 18650’s (with a spacer) for this light.

Finally I receive the sample right now.
I’ll post in a few hours the images.

Very excited for your findings and this light

Va bene!!

Can’t wait for the results :sunglasses:

This is exciting, how will it actually be!!!

Thanks for the recommendation.

However, I’m a bit paranoid about not knowing who the original manufacturer of the cell is with 26650s. At least with 18650s it is relatively easy to find out if the original cell is from ‘high quality’ companies such as Panasonic/Sanyo, LG, etc.

Keeppower 5200 mah unprotected 26650”s are a very well respected cell if you are concerned about the quality.

+1

The COMETA will be ready before 15th April.

Final Sample

Improved tailcap: now the tailcap is less bright in order to respect the button timing. So leds on both sides and 752 resistors with a value of 7,5 kΩ ( higher value than 202 used on X6v2). Double gold plated spring.
Thanks to Toykeeper

Difference beetween COMETA and X6v2 tailcaps.

Tailcap teardown:

Good anodization:

Best machining on zooming’s threading with higher tolerances. Now the zooming action is very smooth and in intermediate positions the head stay in place and don’t rattle if the light is shack up.

Redisegned brass pill to accept 17 mm driver and 16 mm led star.

Redisegned alluminium cover for the led mcpcb with a smaller hole to prevent light artifacts due to reflexes on copper board.
Thanks to the parabolic shape there is no need of the ring present in the stock Jax.

This flashlight has a plenty of threads: all are well machined

Thank you for the Fotos from the Final Sample. I’m very impressed.

Thanks Cyberescudo for your images and time!

That´s some very good news! I didn´t expect it to be ready so quickly!

Keep up the good work!

K.

Will there be more available than those already ordered ?
What I mean is that after I have received the one I have already ordered will it be possible for me to get another one ?
Oh & have you done any tail cap amperage measurements on the final sample ?

Yes.

Same as stated in the OP around 5,5A.

GREAT Work!

I like the new pill. Seems to be heavier than the old one and it takes 17mm drivers.
And the driver seems to sit deeper in the pill. This solves the problem with the long 26650 (26700) cells like from Keeppower.

The black centering ring seems to be much more solid and has a better thread.
The black XPL adapter promises much to me. This always was a weak point in the Z1.

Also like the thicker spring on the driver.
… more than thes two springs in the tailcap. They look a little bit crappy for me.

The tailcap is darker than the kronos tailcap - also a pro.

Love this italian light!!!
