Why would you buy a variable focus light if you only want throw? I don’t get that idea because when you focus for throw you are minimizing the lumen output of the light. A variable focus FL is general-purpose by nature.
I read Mauisons comment today, too busy to reply that indeed I generalised and was merely speaking for myself.
For me the Cometa is for throw, thats why I choose the cooler tint. For closer by I have other lights with a nice warm tint (and looking formward to be able to mod the high CRI SRK ;))
I thought the throw part of this light is a nice appeal to a lot, hence maybe a bit more cooler tints ordered.
But being corrected I can now only say:
But yes it very well possible a lot want a warmer tint for a general purpose light, strange that in this case the cooler tints seem more ordered
I think more people get hung up on the paper numbers, and therefore order cools tints for the “maximum” lumen numbers.
In my experience (limited, and with quite a bit of head scratching) the NW are not that much less bright, regardless of the paper numbers. Obviously in the same Bin, different bins are apples and oranges. I have found the cooler tints have significant glare for me… So I go for the NW now.
If you take two of these out with non flashaholics, one in each tint, and not tell them the difference, you will see we all have our own preference in tints…
Yep, agreed, while CW emitters may be technically brighter when measured, my eyes can “see” more with NW and even WW, but I think NW is a good happy medium for a thrower. I think the reduction in glare combined with a slightly higher CRI is better than pure lumen output when you want to be able to see something really far away.
Those aspheric lenses project an image of the die, whatever form your die has will be the form of the beam at max zoom, luminus did some round die, althought almost all power leds are square.
Yes- and some Zooms can go slightly beyond projecting the die which then looks almost round with a very tight beam especially from the smaller emitters.
