BS
It was announced on an “Earnings Call”
Whether the actual word Surge was used is irrelevant, they wanted variable pricing that they could change at the drop of a hat.
You don’t tell all your Franchisee’s that you are going to force them to do expensive upgrades on computerized variable rate Price boards and not be touting the advantages (More Profit) of doing so.
What they were really doing was “Putting toes in the water” to see what the reaction would be and when it blew up like the next Bud Light they backtracked and changed the tune.
They wanted the media to blast this message, Which they did, just look at page after page of the original announcement on every platform.
We only got the desired message they wanted to send, we did not get the call verbatim.
They had the choice to phrase the words however they wanted and they Failed Biggly.
Peace Out.
Guys, enough of this crap.
I want to know when I can go to Wendy’s to get a burger for free.
LOL
Burger King is doing that to Mock Wendy’s right now.
It is not entirely free, think you have to spend $3 on something else and only on the BK App which is no go for me, don’t download any of those data skimmer apps.
Middle of the night, but you have to cook it yourself
I read the original story on multiple news outlets and the change.
And I just listened to the 52 minute call on YouTube that was posted two weeks ago.
They are not changing their tune. They are moving forward with the digital boards and it sounds like Wendy’s will be paying for them not necessarily the franchisees. They talk about the biggie bag and value pricing and they have no intention to surge prices.
Even if they wanted to surge prices they would have to watch the lines at McDonald’s to see when they get long over there to surge their prices cuz there’s never a line at the local Wendy’s that I see.
In the next town over there is a Wendy’s and McDonald’s and a Burger King all within a quarter mile of each other and I don’t understand how Burger King and Wendy’s survives compared to the business that McDonald’s does. After listening to the 52 minute call I’m convinced they had no intention of surging prices and the media got it wrong.
And I’m not a fan of Wendy’s. I’ve gone there twice in the last 5 years.
Yeah, what’s with the lines at Mucky Ds? I don’t get it.
They are mediocre, but they are mediocre consistently around my neck of the woods. You won’t get a great burger, but you know it’ll at least resemble something edible and you usually get it in a timely manner. The same can not be said for other chains in this area.
I myself was going to McD’s pretty regularly on workdays because it was quick and easy. Cheeseburger sounds more exciting on paper than “sandwich-in-a-bag.” I’ve since come to my senses and started eating food sourced from the nearby grocery store instead. I can afford nicer sandwich ingredients for less money than I was spending on Culver’s, McD’s. I miss Jersey Mike’s, but they are overpriced af too.
I have only had fast food once in the past month. Trying to lose about 35 lbs this year. So far I’ve lost ~13.
Yeah, that’s why I practically used to live at the choinese-food place near where I worked. You could pay ridiculous prices for a Five Guy or Subway (back then they still had the 5buk “footlongs”, but I hear prices skyrocketted there over the past decade or so), or for 8bux or so, the same price as a typical burger/fry/drink, I could get a freaking platter of whatever.
Cheap good eats. Dunno about peanut oil, but piles of veggies, chicken or skrimps or both, white rice, etc., it doesn’t quite sound “unhealthy”. It’d be about the same as if I made it at home.
I still miss the Karl Elmer, though. Crappy little faded sign in the window “best sandwiches in town”, and they were absolutely right. I used to go there plenty, too, even when prices kept getting higher and higher, because they were worth it.
Alas, they sold to new owners, and man, did quality drop like a rock, and fast. Got to the point the old-timers who used to come from miles around would stop coming there even for regular meats. Used to always be a line almost if not actually out the door, then… desolation. No one wanted to go there. Flies buzzing around, shiite quality of sandwiches, just nasty.
But I literally can’t remember when I last went to a (conventional) fast-food place.
When I get “Chinese” food it’s always General Tso’s Chicken, Sesame Seed Chicken, or Orange chicken. So nothing resembling healthy
Five Guys has never been a good deal. They can afford to load you up on fries because those are cheap. Subway was a pretty decent deal back in the day–now I’m not sure what they’re good for. Jokes about Jared I guess?
Never heard of Karl Elmer before now, but looking at google maps I understand why. Apparently they’re an East Coast business and I’ve never been. That’s too bad they went downhill.
KE is by individual franchise, I imagine. Not sure / don’t recall if the new owners kept the KE name.
Back in the day, like ages ago when my then-gf and I would get 'em, you’d get a Subway tunyfish hero and it’d have a half-inch thick layer of tunyfish in the middle, but later, and this was looong after but still over a decade ago, they’d just blop 2-3 little melon-baller scoops of it on the bread, and smear it like it was a condiment, just a thin tuna-scented layer of mayo. I even asked, “That’s it?!?” and got this quizzical look, like “Duh, of course, what’d you expect?”. Last time I ever ordered it there.
– I typed “mesclun” and somehow auto-correct changed it. And I swear, I was not doing searches on drugs prior to that!
I miss Blimpe personally. That oil/ vinegar flavor was very unique.
