Day at home today so a chance to use some of my clones.
These two are my favourites at the moment with top spot going to the Military, it fits my hand and would be ideal with gloves on as well.
I was wondering how long until I saw some more ZT on this thread. Dale and I were the only ones (I think) until you posted yours.
You made a cool lanyard for the Military. Are those nuts and skull beads?
Just an update.
Iâve been practicing with my new stones with excellent results.
The women in my building now have razor sharp knives in their kitchens. My little pub across the street is owned by a Chinese girl, and I sharpened her uselessly dull cleaver knives to hair shaving sharp.
If you want to practice free hand sharpening, do it on womenâs kitchen knives. No matter how bad a job you do, theyâll still be better than they were.
PS. I just ordered a chosera stone to try out. Iâll let you know.
I cleaned up the blade a bit , sharpened , & added some hockey tape for grip⊠This thing is a beast.
⊠on SPF whitewood what blade isnât? Get ya a Temple Purple stud and have a go at itâŠ
Spyderco Aqua Salt. Another hot, sweaty morning.
Well youâre just a little ray of sunshine arenât you?
Spruce-Pine-Fir or as we call it, whitewoods, is soft lumber. Yellow pine grade 2 is much harder and would say a lot more about a blade that could whack it up.
My cousin used to brag about being able to break SPF studs out of a wall with his fist. Wouldnât even try it with YP. Just sayingâŠ.
Sorry, I grew up in a lumber yard.
I have some purple heart growing on my property that gives my chainsaw nightmares.
I bet! Itâs a pretty wood but very hard. Beautiful as knife scales though.
Knife handle blanks⊠Just havent figured which knife I wanna put them on yet
I really like the Spyderco Military 8steve88 but Iâm a tip up carry guy and I canât get past that the Military doesnât have the option.
So - here is my favorite EDC -
Itâs an old sprint run Endura and as you can see very well used. Just found out that these now sell for
$ 200.00 and maybe a bit more. I need to send my $ 69.00 Endura back to Spyderco for some reconditioning. Would be worth spending $ 30 or $ 40.00 to get it back to like new. The blade has been sharpened enough that the tip now doesnât fully get concealed by the scales when closed. Just sticks out a bit. Not enough to bite but still not right.
Iâm a huge Spyderco fan. Of course I have too many (as with flashlights) but the Endura sees the most pocket time.
How many of you guys started out adamant that tip-down carry was the best way, only to have that aha! moment and change all your knives to tip-up? I used to think tip-down was safer, and on maybe a few knives it is, but for the bulk of mine, thereâs zero chance of the blade injuring me when I draw the knife. Iâve spent lots of time with both, and I find tip-up carry is superior because it has a more natural feel, and it makes deployment a little easier.

Yes, Stainless Steel - M5 for gutted 550 Paracord and M6 for un-gutted, they fit really well once both ends are melted slightly and if itâs a but difficult to get the paracord through the second time then you just screw it on. Best part is 100 nuts for ÂŁ1.95. You can use washers and half height nuts as well.
The skull beads are from China 10 for ÂŁ2.46 they are just too small for two lengths of paracord to fit but one length, melt the end and pull the bead into the molten end and it wonât fall off.
I put a few nuts and spacers to stop the lanyard on my lighter from melting when it is laid down after working with it.
The yellow cord has nuts, half nuts and washers. the orange just a pair of M6 nuts.
I use Tibetan silver beads and spacer beads meant for bracelet making.

I just never got Spydercoâs, have all the bug range, Kiwi3, Spyderedge Clipitool and just thought of them as overpriced but O.K. Then I got a Military clone and itâs completely changed my mind, the âgrown-upâ Spydercoâs are very good indeed and Iâm likely to buy a genuine Military or Paramilitary 2 very soon. They are expensive in the U.K. - $231 for a Military, $180 for a Paramilitary 2.
Thatâs a well used Endura. Definitely worth sending in for an overhaul, especially as the blade is showing a sharp part when closed.
Itâs a personal thing but Iâm not keen on lock-back knives and only have a few, good job thereâs plenty of choice for us both.
The question of tip up/tip down carry doesnât really matter to me as the knives I carry are all in my pocket not clipped on - it isnât a good idea to show that youâre carrying a knife in the U.K. - it could attract unwanted attention, so itâs a lanyard and deep pockets for me. Iâm relying on the dĂ©tente to be good enough to keep the blade safe.
LOL..Nice, but.need a Drive-In screen to view it...
The photo is actual size of the Brawler.
