Psyop - Top Liner Lock Knife (3.32" Elmax Blade & Norplex UltreX™ Micarta Handle) - A2213

Most of today’s carry, or at least what I felt like putting out on the wet wood. The blades are a Spyderco Sage 5 customized by me and an Asher Lil Buddy Wharncliffe customized by someone else.

That’s a nice version. I could do without the yellow pivot accent but all much better than the all black version.

I have nothing but positive opinions about all aspects of this fine knife. Best yet from Vosteed IMHO … :+1:

A friend inspired me to carry both old and new versions of the PF719 today. Being clipless, I carried one in each pocket of my cardigan sweater. A little silly? Sure, but it was fun.

The one with wooden scales is the oldest and first generation of the PF719. I’ve had it for years, since before Petrified Fish was really known in the west. I still remember finding them on AliExpress. I’d been looking at random Chinese budget knives and discovered that Petrified Fish had been the OEM for those Go,Comma knives. I ordered this one and I think it was my first to wear the PF brand.

The new carbon fiber version is part of the third generation AFAIK. There had been an update between them in which the brand medallion replaced the central body screw. Not sure if the change to the lock bar was in the second or third generation. They also went from single-sided to double-sided thumb studs. Aside from being available in more handle materials, a big upgrade with the third generation is the move from 12C27 to 14C28N.

Today’s carry including a custom from David Mary and a Petrified Fish (I forgot the number).

So is it worth warranty trouble? They already said that they didn’t have replacement parts and it would be replaced with a similar model. Some sentimental value but it is totally unusable.
Springs (broken) for these old knives are my most common problem.
So ten bucks and three months. Plus the hassle of packing and mailing.

PF Scholar and the little Canary fixed blade with some other stuff.

I’d just find the closest model on their website and see if:
A. You want it
B. The warranty and return process would cost significantly less than buying it

Shipping an already-broken small item shouldn’t be too expensive or difficult.

Is the number on the blade 108? 308? Wondering what model it is exactly

Old two blade 309.

Looks like the 309 is a smaller knife with the large blade being about 2" long, is that correct?

If so, it doesn’t appear to me that Buck makes a 2-blade (or more) knife in that size which is also made in the USA. The closest available knife by size is the 375 Deuce which can be had for only $24 on Amazon and is imported from China.

Ultimately whether or not it is worth sending in will depend on if they take it upon themselves to match the quality of the original rather than its size. I’d try to call them and see if they could predict which knife would be the replacement because in my opinion it wouldn’t be worth it for the $24 knife.

Thanks for the input. I tend to agree. I’ll email them and ask what they would replace it with.

Even if they don’t have the exact replacement part, can a new one be made close enough, using the old part as a template?
