A separate, portable light could do a better job in general since you can freely move it around to match the specific part you’re inspecting. Something like a (modified) ikea gooseneck lamp could be a good tool for this.

I can’t tell from the pictures where this watch face is going to be when you’re working and what access you have to put light on it when you’re looking at things under the microscope. A shallow angle is not enough. If you can you want light at a near zero angle.

After testing several different light colours, I can confirm that the color is of secondary significance - it’s more the very shallow angle that shows dust.
But I have the feeling that warm white and green do indeed a better job than other colors!
