What thrower to get?

Ok That’s the one I was hoping was getting all the love. I also love a good thrower, and had my sights on the STL-V6. Wondering which might be better.

Just got 155 kcd measured on a mod'ed T13 - resistor mod to 1.7A tail (3.4A effective), de-domed XM-L2 T6 0D/SinkPAD, UCL/p lens. Maybe $18 or so in parts, $24 for T13 at Manafont. It is de-domed, so has the usual characteristics (more neutral tint, loses brightness in flood) but still does 1,030 lumens at 30 secs. If you did without the UCL/p, maybe $10-$12 in parts then, with results of 146 kcd.

The TN31 and TK75 are both super lights. But if I had to choose, the TK75 would easily beat it. The TK75 will be my last light to ever leave as of now. It’s still my favorite flashlight that I have. Spill, throw, lightweight, looks, and great feel all rolled in to one light. You just can’t beat it. The TN31 will out throw it, but that’s all the TN31 has on the TK75.

+1 - a sweet light for sure totally stock... Though I do want to mod it so badly

This thread is really interesting. Surprising to see so many lights compared across such a broad range of price!

Smallsun ZY-T13 = $24 (about $42 modded)
Fandyfire STL-V6/Skyray STL-V2 = $35 - $50
Supbeam K40 = $120 (or a bit less)
Thrunite TN31 = $160ish
Fenix TK75 = $200 (or more)

I assume bang for buck the STL-V2/V6 still reigns supreme??

For what it is, I think the Armytek Barracuda looks awesome. I wouldn’t expect it to hang with the bigger & more cell capacity K40/TN31/TK75 though.

Woohoo my TN31 showed up today from Thrunite!!! :)…

im very impressed right of the bat, cant wait for the sun to go down now! I did have one issue with it though. when I took it apart to put batteries in it, I noticed there was no o-ring, but then saw a broken one laying in the bottom of the case, no biggie really but makes you wonder how that could have happened?? good thing I got two spares….

You may add the new Solarforce S1100 for $119, shipped, although I’ve seen the TN31 in some dealers at about $140, some even claim to be less than that.

I did the resistor mod to the TN31 which increased the throw to 140's kcd, up from about 125 kcd, and lumens went up to 1,300's. Next thing is to upgrade to XM-L2 U2/SinkPAD and de-domed - hoping for over 320 kcd. Can't get to this for a while though - just ordered supposed XM-L2 U2 1A's from KD, better pricing now, and would like to use one of these to de-dome.

Sounds like a super sweet mod you got in the works Tom!
