Got a Convoy S2 and S5 hosts, Nanjg 105 2.8A drivers and neutral white XM-L2’s for them. Got them replacement coated glass lens because I don’t like the cheap default glass. Built the S2 for now, very pleased how it turned out. Used 22AWG silicone coated wires. How do you guys secure the 17 mm driver on the back of the pill, I tried soldering and sorta failed, the pill sucks the heat right out. I guess I’ll have to try again.
Someone said a VERY hot soldering iron, a blob of solder, a good amount of flux and quickly dab it, otherwise the pill does suck the heat out
On my S2 triple XP-G2 build I had to solder a tiny bead all the way around the pill to make sure the solder sticks
P.S. get the hobby file and scuff the spot where you want the solder to bond right before you solder it (sometimes the corrosion won’t let the solder stick )
I got me an old fashioned 60 watt plumbers iron with a big flat tip for 10 euro, to do this on my p60 builds. no flux needed….
i tin the edge and round the pill on several places, before i put my led and driver in (it will melt driver and led probably if done when they are already in the pill) , after it cooled down, the led and driver go in, and i can put a little blob of solder with my 40 watts electronic fine tip iron from the driver to the edge of the pill.
Just a tip:
On my convoy s2 build, i did use a file to make 2 places i can set my tweezers in to screw the pill down, because i used an 8x7135 i couldnt use the retainer ring. the pill is held down by the force
Got a Convoy S5 host, XM-L2 T6 4D and a 2.8A Nanjg 105C. The pill is better constructed than that of the S2, driver fits snug. Tint is more neutral than the XM-L2 U2 4C in the S2. Overall an easy build, but I don’t get why the S5 is more expensive than the S2. They will come in handy in winter as handwarmers
O-rings and a Black Cat that I don’t really need because I am working on SS-5039s. It does have better throw, due to its small “from Germany” OSRAM led. The head won’t come off this one, maybe Loctited.
I got a Supbeam X40 L2 ordered as part of the group buy set up by the. Not in my hands yet but the first major step taken, ordered and paid for. A nice price on a good looking continuously variable magnetic ring controlled quite powerful light. I like the continuously variable magnetic ring user interface and already have several less powerful lights with the feature.
Got my gearbest $7 headlight in…think it might be time to mod it up [especially to get rid of that damn strobe (contemplating stacking an ATtiny MCU on a Tiny10 board to run the PWM of the stock FET, since the driver is a momentary flashing it with STAR Werner UI for 5 modes round robin, then OL’s poor mans stippling to smooth out the hotspot and then put some blah blah fix(?) tape over the lens (thanks Cereal_killer) for a very smooth thrower for in close soldering work (when I need a light close in) might even grapht in a TP4056 charge module between the external plug to the battery inputs so I can charge externally w 5vdc wall wart and not have to worry about overcharging]
Got two 2x26650 cases, and ten water proof 2x18650 cases from FT. Tracking was unavailable until it passed through the Scarborough ME sort facility last night. Those are always the fun orders, the ones you can not track
Two more broken Nanjg 102 boost drivers from Fasttech. I am trying to explain to them that the ferrite cores of these things are fragile thin ceramic shapes that can only be shipped in ridged packaging. I sent them pictures showing broken off chips of ferrite, so I expect future shipments to be in boxes.
