New Nonsense Light Day

tldnr: My cat Loves to chase the Red Laser…

This little Smiling Shark cost me $3.48 shipped. It arrived in 10 days.

It has a bunch of features with a total of 7 LEDs:

One front Low CRI Cool White 6000K LED with 2 modes, 250 lm and 120 lm, plus strobe,

a red laser that only turns on if the button is held down constantly

a pair of Low CRI Cool White 8800K sidelights at 50 lm combined, a blue sidelight (not UV), a pair of 620nm Red sidelights with a constant On at 20 lumens, plus a Red strobe mode.

There is NoPWM on any output, and NoMoonlight mode.

The switch is Very Firm, and shielded by a step in the case .. impossible to turn on accidentally.

The light w non removable battery weighs 19.5 grams.

It has a magnet that is just strong enough to hold the light vertically, but not sideways,

a pocket clip that allows use on a hat,

a wire loop to hang the light to a keychain, or as a necklace

a USB-C charging port with a green indicator light that flashes during charging and turns constant On when done.

a transparent red plastic fold out lens, that is listed for use “finding pinhole cameras”.. not sure what that means. It also works to stand the light up at an angle.

The UI turns On with a single clic, it advances through 6 more modes with single clics.. and turns off after the red strobe. Or IF we wait 10 seconds of On time at any level, then a single clic turns it off

The package includes a USB-A to C charging cable, and a piece of paracord that could be used to hang the light as a necklace (ask if you need help tying a breakaway knot so you cant strangle yourself). The packaging includes a plastic bag, a box, and instructions, in Chinese. I dont know how they manage to produce the light, and mail it, for the price I paid.

This light definitely meets the definition of Cheap Thrills! .. a total Steal of a Deal.

Awesome. Looks great.
I almost ordered a couple lights in the Mao grey. I think I need to do so.

Yowsa, that’s some color, beautiful.

I recieved 2 SFT-20-W in 6500K (ordered from Kaidomain’s Aliexpress store).

This LED (the white variant) was already mentioned here on the forum in 2019, but until recently it has never showed up anywhere.

The SFT-20-W has a 2mm² LES and according to KD it should/could handle up to 10A, but given there is no official data sheet to be found for this white version (there are datasheets for the color versions of the SFT-20), it’s hard to say if it actually can handle that 10A.

3 Thanks

If you look at the datasheet for SFT20, it shows the recommended mcpcb is not electrically isolated. The cathode pad is supposed to act as a dtp, but looking at KD’s SFT20 mcpcb you can see there’s traces from the negative pads to the cathode. I expect it won’t be able to handle the claimed 10A.

You where completely right!

I tested it with a Convoy 8A buck driver first and even that was already enough turning it REALLY angry blue, as I mentioned in this post:

Looks like there’s no DTP at all.

2 Thanks

I just checked on the 16mm MCPCB (since the 20mm is currently mounted in a light), but I can confirm that there is no DTP indeed.

1 Thank

Without DTP it’s probably limited to something like 3A.

If Cathode was connected to DTP you’d need to electrically isolate the MCPCB from the Host.

In my opinion these LEDs aren’t suited for flashlights.

Traded online a 15V Manix 2 LW for the Stretch because I’d been trying to find one, and in my experience I’ve found K390 to have better performance than 15V, and I already had a BD1N LW and Crucarta Manix.

He threw in the little Kershaw and I actually like it pretty well. I must say that the Stretch 2 feels insanely good in the hand. As good as if not better than the Manix 2, better than the Shaman.
