heeheehee…the wavien collar is a very…specific geometry, if you will. A hemispherical shape. but what if you were to form a spherical shape? sure, there would be some losses from the bouncing, BUT overall more light would be bounced. Then put a highly transmissive yet slightly translucent surface at the top exit aperture to function as the apparent image?
Might not be super effective, but it could be a thing, maybe, at the cost of extended length and production costs…and R&D…and all of a sudden I’ve lost all motivation LOL.
**I’m not saying a perfect sphere, as that would essentially be a 1:1 translation to the apparent image. I’d also have to read wavien’s actual patent to try and glean what’s enforceable or repealable based on the specifics…afterall, suefire somehow patented a metal tube that emits light…
My limited knowledge about patents is that (in NL) you may build and use a patented item for study and personal use, in your own home or company. Making more copies than needed for that study, and/or selling those is illegal. The main principle is whether the holder of the patent is financially hurt by you making your own Gizmo in stead of buying a patented Gizmo from him. He/she is not hurt if you are set on making it yourself or not using/needing it at all.
Based on the sketch: if you want the emitter’s light to reflect to the aperture, a sphere won’t accomplish this. Alternative shapes that do accomplish this are (i) an ellipsoid with foci at the emitter and aperture, or (ii) a pair of parabolic reflectors glued together by the opening.
The issue here is that the light doesn’t reflect back to the LED surface, so no intensity is gained over a bare LED with no modification.
It’s the name of the company that made the light. If you were one of the first people to sign up for this light when they first announced it, you got the stand for free
Yesterday counts for today right?! Thanks to a member on here (will name if they’re ok with it later) got some really hard to find P60 hosts I’ve been searching for and a few marketplace finds.
Left to right
Texaslumens copper P60, polished Solarforce L2 Lego with A001 head, T8(or9) tail, Fivemega 26500 p60 host, Solarforce L2M with 18650 extension, clean Surefire 6P, Surefire 6Z with GG&G impact device bezel, and a stock Surefire 6Z
I love mine. I got the one without the power supply since it seemed super sketchy (e.g. unsafe) and probably would’ve lasted a month. I run mine off a 95 watt (19.5 v, 4.7 A) HP laptop power supply. Plenty of oomph to solder thick things.
I just get the nicest cheap ones from AE or Amazon or Banggood. The Quicko ones have held up great over the 5 years i’ve had them and got lots of use. The pff brands haven’t, but still great for the price
The Hakko branded tips are the best out there, but crazy $$$ for hobby use.
