What's a Good "PEN" Style Light??

Hey all,

One light type that I like are the pen style lights with a clip. I think they are very useful around the house and in the car. Last week I almost bought one of the 2xAAA MiniMags at Lowes for $13. It is listed at 84 lumens.

I have been nosing through threads a bit and saw a couple links of lights that look really good.

This is one:

I also saw a thread talking about the Convoy S6 that had a clip on the end of it and it looked really good too. It’s hard to believe that light can be had with almost 900 lumens. I might have to get that one if that output is real.

Do you have any of these style lights that you like and can recommend? I’d like to see your choices.

Thanks all.

Whats your price range, I really like my Olight oPen.

As for the S6, 900Lm is easy to do, you can build them up to have >1500Lm if you really want but runtime will suffer a bit running them that hot

Heck I’d be thrilled with 900 lumens in a light that small.

I’m prolly gonna have to have one if they are that good.

Olight O’Pen; ST25 baton if you are looking at 2xAA or 1x14500…

What is your budget? Any cell size preference?

That Olight(I think it’s the oPen) Upz reviewed looks like a real winner, but I think it’s way above $13.

found it: [Review] OLIGHT O'PEN (XP-G2, 2x AAA)

Open costs 30$ on Gearbest?

Does it?! I got one for fathers day last year but for $30 I might buy another, its the only AAA light I own and I have about 18 AAA eneloops lol. Very good light, great feel in hand and even being carried quite often in my pocket with a knife its ano has held up very well.

Here is an older thread with good suggestions

I like my Hugsby XP-2 due to decent output, slim form factor
( fits into slim thermometer “pocket” on my chef coats), nicely recessed clicky
(which is not likely to have accidental activations, but might be bad for large fingers)
and it was a great value at about $12. (?)

If I needed a beast in this format, or had a bigger budget—
the O’Light/4Sevens O’pen looks very nice.

I guess I am using the wrong term here. I am talking about the smaller type lights, not an actual PEN type light. Does that make sense? I guess it would be the kinds of lights that would be pretty straight and take 2xAA or even AAA. The links in my post would be the types and shape I am talking about.

Sorry for the wrong terminology.

Thanks

tons of “Tube” style lights out there.
Rereading your post,I assume you are looking for output over size considerations.

Yeah…I guess you’re right. I would like a nice strong beam in a small size. That one light in the link I posted is listed at 450 lumens. That seems incredible out of that small light and if that is true, I might have to get one.

I would prefer to keep these in AAA or AA size so I can keep them in my hunting bag, glovebox, tacklebox or other places and I can pack the spares right along with them and not have to worry about the “special” batteries that they might need.

Not exactly lumen blasters but great form, i have the S2 that you can get a clip for from same site.

“Pen style” are 2xAAA only, in my opinion.

Not all are 2x AAA though.
But i think he means a tube shaped little torch.
Preferably a powerful one.
But the AAA sizes have short runtime, of course.
