Whats the deal with MAO coatings?

I can see doing that to install the clip but how does it help to remove the clip? Isn’t the goal to get it between the metals?

Yea, I agree MAO has proven itself to be a waste of time. Makes the light so much more delicate.

I’m not that critical of MAO. In my experience, in case of Emisar it’s pretty much the same durability as the cyan ano. Or slightly better. Just gets dirty easier, but it’s a case of rubbing the muck off.

And the silky feel and unique color more than make up for the affinity to dirt, for me at least

I don’t think it is the MAO in itself. It is very expensive to install tools for a task that is seldom used. So it’s outsourced. The quality and the experience of the sub (sub) contractors who do the actual work is essential for the result.

I just slide the plastic sheets under the clip arms, tape them down, and then pull the clip off the flashlight.

Sometimes it’s a little hard to get them under the clip since it’s tight on the flashlight, but I’ve always managed to do so.
