All the ones I have gotten have no room for expansion. You would be burrowing behind the reflector walls. The edges of the taper come flush to the existing XM-L holes. Sometimes even the pictures look like there is an edge that can be expanded, but it ends up being an optical illusion caused by reflection. I want one badly.
What do you mean by expansion? I just open up the reflector itself by taking a round file to it and removing part of the reflector. I have done this on quite a few mods to let more light in, it increases throw quite a bit actually.
If the reflector has a flat area around the emitter hole, opening it larger doesn't screw anything up. But if the taper goes all the way to the emitter hole, enlarging it cuts into the sides and effectively shortens the reflector, does the same as poking the LED farther up, which is the one thing the MTG2 does not like at all when it comes to getting the focus good. The wider the flat area around the hole is the better the reflector works with the MTG2.
