Which movie did you watch lastֻ

Wonka- Terrible ! I slept on and off and was rudely awakened by the bad singing…

I dug out my copy. 4K version. I will re-watch it over the weekend. THX for the reminder on this one. I did enjoy it the last time around.

Double Feature:

  1. Christmas with the Kranks.
  2. Ernest Saves Christmas.

do not bother
unless there are children
who need to be entertained.
well, and teens who make
crude comments constantly
to annoy the adults and
shock the kids.

If the movie has Christmas in the title, its probably sucks. It telegraphs a lack of imagination and a focus on holiday ticket sales.

“Nightmare Before Christmas”.

I’m still amazed by how much content was stuffed in there, especially with the rapidfire lyrix that no human alive could digest in one sitting, and would need to rewind/replay a dozen times just to catch the words, let alone let it all soak in.

There’s an exception to every rule.

Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire [2023]

I think that Snyder has a stunning visual flair, but is a terrible writer. This movie has not changed that view unfortunately. The biggest problem with this movie is that all of the characters are flat and undeveloped. A lot of the actors seem to be black holes of charisma too. It’s like a bunch of underwear models got hired instead of actors.

The nail in the coffin is that this is clearly just half of a movie, not a Part 1. Dune Part 1 felt more complete than this.

For the record, I like and own many of Snyder’s other films despite their flaws, but this “Part 1” is not strong enough to stand on its own.

The Killer [2023]

directed by David Fincher,
released on Netflix

This movie was an interesting watch. It’s beautifully made and well-acted. I’m not entirely sure what I was supposed to take away from it though, aside maybe a newfound cynicism about the value of human life? Curious what other people thought about it. I’d watch it again.

Sound of Freedom ---- Horrible topic — Hard to imagine these things happening to children

Yeh, I told others that it’s not a movie you want to see, but a movie you need to see.

I felt rather the same way. Aesthetically and stylistically I enjoyed it. I just don’t know if I really gained a whole lot from the experience, other than enjoyment. I do like Fassbender quite a lot as an actor.

I am getting back into the reviewing game and getting caught up. Tell me what you think of my video review of The Whale (2022)

Do you agree?

I’ve not seen Barbie… yet. From those who did see it? VERY polarized. My sister and her husband watched it and they turned it off after about 20 minutes. Some other people I know thought it was hilarious. It looks like you either love it or hate it. What I gather about it is… it’s poking fun at the whole Barbie franchise. Almost a “trolling” of the whole phenomenon. Lots of clever digs… but also some pretty mundane and silly ones. You have to go into it with no expectations but be prepared for silly weirdness.

I’ve seen Rush (2013) now!

I think I still prefer Ford v. Ferrari–something about the camerawork and sound really drew me into the races for that film. That being said, Rush is still a very good movie. I was impressed that neither of the main characters were fully romanticized or villainized. The accuracy of the casting was also insane! Overall I think Rush is more about characters than cars while Ford v. Ferrari is the opposite. Glad to add it to my collection

I picked up the Blu-ray for $3 at the local pawn shop, and the digital code was even good yet! (I don’t normally use digital streaming but it is convenient if you’re visiting somewhere and want to show someone a movie you already have on your shelf at home.)

This exactly. So many films I’ve seen have been ruined by hype and my preconceptions. I didn’t have a clue about Barbie and enjoyed it for being what it was, a daft and colorful romp through magical film sets.

“Pir8s Of The Caribbean” was ruined for me because all the commercials made it out to be a comedy, and I was waiting… and waiting… and waiting… for it to get funny.

By the time I realised it wasn’t, that it was a serious movie but with some funny moments, the movie was half-over.

It has a fair bit of comedy baked in I’d say. They get less serious as they go though–the first is definitely the most serious.

Alien 3 (1992) rewatch

Worse than I remember it being. No suspense compared to Alien, no action compared to Aliens, and they kill off important characters from the last film without ceremony. The CGI is dated too. Good performances and sets can’t fix a bad story unfortunately. Now the question is, do I want to subject myself to Alien Resurrection tonight? :upside_down_face:

It had terrific production values and sadly… a weak story. It was a real letdown from “Aliens.” Such a disappointment. I liked the first one a lot and found the sequel a whole different angle (expanding from one alien to many) yet added a lot as well. Different kinds of suspense. The bar remained high after “Aliens.” So this 3rd one… killed the momentum.

Resurrection is awful. I mean, there are many cool scenes in it. The general premise is interesting. Excellent production values. But the writing just sucked. I also found the ending supremely pathetic.

… killed the momentum.

Yea, idk why they keep slogging along with this horrible continuity. They should do a soft reboot starting after Aliens. Or maybe a prequel that shows the alien race whose ship is discovered in Aliens.

I can’t remember a ton about Resurrection. Probably a good thing I guess… I might watch it tonight though. It’s $5 movie night at the local theater but I have no interest in anything playing.

Looking forward to Dune Pt 2 in March though!
