why is nichia leds so poisonous to many flashaholics?

Hello all. just got my LED from kaidomain
I am extremely pleased with the output
I can finally understand the quality of the high cri that everyone claims
I am completely poisoned

Thanks to all of you who recommended/convinced me to buy one. As a casual photographer I am really happy with what I got.
in fact it’s brighter than my ugly purple stock xp-e and makes my light floody which is good

I’ve had it here instead of a P60 drop in as I find myself using it too often. The Ultrafire light was my EDC and now I could say it pretty much perfects the light

I set my color balance to daylight for these following shots.

XML2 U2 4C vs Nichia 219B

XML2 U2 1a vs 4C vs Nichia 219B

XPE Dedomed vs Unknown Osram vs Nichia 219B vs XML2 U2 4C

I used to love the dedomed xpe
Then I found the osram
but now the nichia wins them all

Control Fluorescent tube light

Nichia 219B
(for a yellowish white light it didn’t fail to produce colors)

XML2 U2 4C
(I noticed immediately how dead the blues and greens with this LED compared to Nichia)

XML2 U2 1A
(Honestly this renders great colors too but when the light hits my skin it looks pale)

Conclusion:
This is the first time I’ve seen an artificial light capable of producing good colors to a camera.
Too much joy. Couldn’t resist playing with this new LED

Why are Nichia LEDs an antidote for many flashaholics?
(……could have been a better title)

Stumbling across this old thread, the thought of flashlight-aholism in general came to mind, then led to the reflection of Nichia Kool-Aid being an antidote instead of dependency/addition.

Having had the unfortunate ‘bad luck’ of erroneous advice from a Medical practitioner, I suffered vitreous hemorrhages in both eyes within a short period of time. Not long afterwards, the first reliable study appeared warning men over 60 years of age could suffer vision consequences when taking Lipitor and aspirin together. So much for Doctor’s advice. In hindsight, appropriate dosages should have been indicated, but this particular ‘Cardiac Specialist’, the best in town, was from the “More is Better’ school of allopathic medicine, interested in treating symptoms instead of concentrating on the causes. My venom came from over the counter at the supermarket pharmacy.

For me, Nichia HiCri LEDs are an antidote, and remedy for my eyes, not a poison.
For some, CREE vs Nichia is like Ford vs. Chevy, others simply want to be different. I try to explain the situation as if shopping for a car. We think of the horsepower at first, then consider handling, comfort, and transmission afterwards.
If raw power can be considered as lumens, tint shift could be likened to smooth transmission and transition of colors, with comfort and handling related to Hi Cri.

The person most of us rely on here at BLF when it comes to Nichia information (Clemence) points out that Nichia is very interested in Hi Cri, mixing their own phosphors, pointing to one difference between Nichia and CREE. Another angle has to do with what he refers to as humancentric lighting. I had to look this up to understand it means “lighting devoted to enhancing vision, wellbeing, and performance individually or in some combination.

I’m not putting down CREE, some of my LEDs from them have great color and fidelity, and I will still use angry CREEs to hunt insects on my walls, blinding and stunning them, and for a disorienting strobe when wishing to discourage animals. I might choose CREE for a hunting light if in the market, and readily admit that there are gorgeous CREE LEDs being produced, with the company currently providing tighter tint binning than Nichia, and a more accessible variety of temperatures. However, video and photography professionals will generally choose Nichia, or some other manufacturer specialized in offering higher Cri tint choices more comparable to daylight.

Quoting another BLFer…

That sucks about your eyes but there are plenty of bad mechanics out there and cars at least have more reliable assembly than bodies. Until genetics are completely mapped and a method of testing every known drug combination with every other drug and possible genetic code it won’t be possible to eliminate trial by error diagnostics. Notice how every drug add is followed by a lawyers add? Something went wrong so it must be someone’s fault.

As we all have seen, you can go to different doctors or auto mechanics, and hear different stories from each of them about what is wrong.
Then there are others; crank turners, time-clock punchers asleep at the wheel.

Sometimes those ads, forced by lawyers to be included, can save lives. Five years ago, my mother had been written off by her family doctor of 17 years, a Concierge physician she pays $4,500 a year, claiming right to four scheduled visits.
Another symptom treater, he had her on a certain drug, which became famous at that time for being counter-indicated, dangerous, and certifiably life threatening when taken in combination with certain other medications, one of which he had also prescribed. It was on the news, and in the magazines.

When I came back to the USA to help in some manner, and was sitting in another medical office, I picked up a magazine, and discovered her physician had not been paying much attention to the media. Both she and her physician became royally irritated at me, until every other doctor and nurse practitioner they talked to agreed with my conclusion. She got off that medication, and has been better ever since.
Without reading that magazine……who knows?
