Yes, although very expensive, they require a chrome coat with a candy coat applied on top, probably not the best option if you’re trying to keep things cheap, although it would look cool
How about a candy over the silver C8? I ordered the Triple C8 kit from kiriba-ru and I wouldn’t mind paying extra for a candy color, it would be that much more special!
I can apply the candy on bare aluminium (dull silver) or polished, it would be cheaper, but the candy effect is maximised with chrome because of the mirror finish
The chrome is applied and cured, then the part isn’t touched at all, the candy is applied and it gives it the nice effect. If the part is dulled or blemished it ruins the effect, e.g. You could see a fingerprint underneath the candy layer
Obviously this makes candy and chrome more expensive with the extra time and materials effectively doing the process twice
It’s doable, and I have done it before, just costs more
Okay, before I forget message numbers, #47 was first mention by FP of less heat-shedding, #55 was the longer in-depth mention of FP’s experiences, and #65 was the first instance of name-calling (“…until the safety patrol came out of the woodwork” or somesuch).
He has his experiences with powder-coating, you have your experiences with powder-coating.
To you, you’re right.
To FP, he’s right.
Mature people would just say, “Fine, agree to disagree”.
The problem’s when one or both sides just refuse to let it go.
And that’s how $#!+storms start…
To go back to the other example I used, additives to gasoline to get better mileage, this’d be as if someone chimed in…
“Hey, I tried that for a while, but had to go replacing seals and hoses when they started to leak!”
“Fooey, I’ve been doing this for years, and never ever had a problem.”
“Okay, but I’m just telling you of MY experiences… you can do what you want, however.”
and that could be the end of it, right then and there. Whoever doesn’t want to chance it, doesn’t have to. Whoever wants to try it, he’s free to do just that.
But like I said, it’s when someone else chimes in about “paranoia”, “safety patrol”, etc., that the namecalling starts, and it alllllllllll goes downhill from there.
Like I said, “Agree to disagree… you’ve got your experiences, and I’ve got mine” would be the mature way of ending it.
So how many are requested and what are price points?
If you have a list somewhere or a running count, it’d inspirer me to commit to raise the number, when it’d help to get the price level to drop.
Also as asked above, are the lights hosts? Or complete with emitters, and which ones?
Simon will sometimes sell parts when asked.
It’d be neat if you could buy a bunch of tailcaps/heads/battery tubes and color those.
I’d love to get half a dozen or a dozen tailcaps/heads, using the whole range of colors.
It’d make it a lot easier to keep track of what emitter and driver I’ve put into the flashlights.
Now I’m just going to do it through the website, the ‘interest list’ so to speak would be the order list, that way:
1) I know exact numbers (it’s already paid for) so noone drops out.
2) I can do orders in order, first come first serve as and when the hosts arrive
3) I don’t have to buy 20/30/50+ hosts upfront and then have people drop out
Originally I would have done 20 or so at once to save the setup times, I’m not going to do that BUT am keeping the price similar
I let it go, I stopped the powder coating and had more in depth tests done by me and independent more In depth tests done (by djozz) to prove the safety before putting them back on sale.
There was a safety concern (even if 1 person is concerned, it’s still enough to stop sales) I pulled them until it was proven safe.
If I had just ignored the concern and carried on it would have been irresponsible
Ironically enough, I think we’re in perfect agreement.
How to “properly” store Li cells, protected vs unprotected cells, pushing LEDs rather hard vs being conservative, just pick a topic, and you’ll likely find True Believers™ on both sides.
I personally don’t think it’s worth getting worked up over, not Religious Beliefs™ like that.
