I generally don’t trust Amazon reviews; between the people leaving good reviews for stuff they’ve gotten for free (Vine), people leaving good reviews for stuff they’ve gotten for free from sellers in exchange for a good review, people leaving good reviews of junk (eg zoomies) because they don’t know any better and people leaving poor reviews because either there was a problem with the delivery or they failed to read the description of the item it’s very difficult to make an informed decision.
I’m part of Vine in Australia. I don’t leave good reviews if something doesn’t deserve it- Amazon actually want honest reviews. (I got invited to Vine after leaving a bad review for an item.) But, sure some people on the scheme just leave useless reviews.
The only problem I’ve had with Vine is them blocking a review where I pointed out an item on sale didn’t meet the local electrical safety standards. Surely that’s important and relevant? I have noticed Amazon often seems to be an off loading point for goods that don’t comply with the local electrical safety standards.
As I say, that’s not my gripe. I don’t care, and will buy and get refunded for products where I’m allowed to write a review. But I won’t when I’m bribed for a positive review. In fact, They are asking directly for a 5 star review.
- Buy it
- Write five star review
- Wait for refund
- Change review to one star.
Or - even better - just ignore these generic chinese brands with the weird names and do not buy from them.
Yeah, I did that, and pointed Wuben to this thread. The reply is pretty much what you’d expect, but it doesn’t do Wuben many favours to have their reps reply in mockery.
Wuben didn’t understand why paid 5-star reviews are a problem. Did the answer in the screenshot come directly from a Wuben representative?
It did apparently. I posted that screenshot to Wuben and they’re apologising on his behalf, and now offering the torch for free without need for a review.
Yeah they don’t want the free publicity that you have been providing for them and they want you to stop.
The higher-ups likely knew what this promotions guy was doing. They likely will not stop that practice. They probably have told him not to respond with these flippant comments.
On the publicity, I also linked them to this thread, so it’s really no wonder at all why they’re falling over themselves with apologies and a free torch.
It seems like Wuben and Acebeam need to be a bit more careful about how they treat their reviewers.
