Xiaomi style battery charger. Near disaster today – flames – when I put a battery in

I know that the protected cells that I have ordered from alibaba, has been normal cells, that they add protection to. That have the sellers told me.
Many of the batteries comes from Gearbest.com also (they with low quantity), and they did not inform about the protection been added later on, so the battery is not original.
But I hope I don’t just have bought crappy stuff, and if I do, I think most of the other sellers here in Norway also do. For most likely we are buying from the same main sources of batteries from China.

It will certainly help that you have posted this thread. This nice public thread with pictures of your burned battery bank. Where we all will read what kind of customer service gearbest gives you. Especially after you have spent $1000 in 21 days with gearbest.

If they refuse to provide a full refund I would suggest you be sure to change the title of this thread to point out the seller. Something like “GearBest Xiaomi style battery charger. Near disaster today - flames - when I put a battery in.”

You might be able to tell I don’t have much tolerance for dangerous products. H) They don’t have to sell the lowest quality dangerous junk simply because other chinese sites sell similar. Especially when it’s li-ion devices or AC mains powered devices. If they sell it then they need to be held responsible. As best as is possible at least, considering being in china shields them from any real consequences.

It looks like you have learnt a lesson with the list of good stock you now have. I was referring to some of your other threads where you bought a heap of junk *fire & no-name batteries.

Yes, that was to my self, and before I joined this forum. Then when it was on it ways, I joined this forum, picked up a thing or two here and there, and then I started to get all the junk from Ebay, and I started opening cases or tell the sellers that I would open cases, and got refunded mostly 100, 50 on some of the flashlights, for they do work, and they are bright, but they are not 3000 or 2000 lumens, but maybe some of them around 1000.

They really don’t like negative feedback there, so now I’m banned from some of the sellers. I wanted to buy some plastic holders to my 18650 batteries from one of the sellers that I had bought most of the Ultrafire batteries from, he had refunded me almost $100 at least. And got several negative feedbacks.
When I tried to order, I only got that I did not meet the requirement, but they sell to Norway (some of the sellers has stopped sending to Norway after refunding me).

But no more Ultrafire on me. But one fire brand seems good, and that Trustfire. Most of my old batteries I changed out was around 6-8 years old, and they was all Trustfire. They have worked and worked, and still after all thees years, they had mostly their rated mAh still.
Same with some new 26550 5000mAh Trustfire batteries I have got lately, they gives me actual mAh or little more. But I don’t think I will try any other xxxxFire batteries in the future. And will never sell them. Most of the batteries I got refunded is recycled now.

You did not give negative feedback after they refunded you (even 50%), right?

The way ebay has become, negative feedback (neg FB) no longer serves the purpose of “feedback”. Ebay penalizes sellers for receiving neg FB. The possibility of neg FB just serves to encourage sellers to solve your problems. If they offer a solution that is good enough for you (refund or send a new item) then the expectation is that you won’t leave neg FB (you can simply leave no feedback). Only if they completely refuse to give you a solution that is reasonable should you give neg FB. But first threaten neg FB, an ultimatum.

I know the idea of “feedback” is suppose to be to warn other buyers about bad sellers but unfortunately, to some extent, it has become something else. Since sellers can ban you, you can’t always freely leave neg FB.

And also neutral feedback isn’t actual “neutral”, ebay considers it bad (though not as bad as a neg).

please show pictures of the circuit board both sides and also the other positive contact of bank.. and other affected cells

all heat is concentrated at that point seems posivte point was connected to this -ive terminal ? was it the first battery that did it or there were other as well ?

you should have first made sure that the positve and negative are not short together.

i am using this type of case and its no issue so far it has tpower 4221B ic (cc/cv charger +boost converter .. charges nicely and disharges only till 3 volts.. and charges very gently and intelligently batteries below 3 volts .. i have just resurected 6 icr8650-30a that i just extracted from laptop battery and i especiallly use it for this type of work.

mine came with all batteries tab wielded .. it wasnt diy but once cell was filled with sand one was 1500mah two were 300-400mah. ever since i am using this for these experiments.

i am happy that you are safe. play wisely with chinese replicas.

i have another power bank diy case from aliexpress and i once placed 3 2600mah icr and then wrongly placed the other two it quickly got hot and started to smell before i immediatley diconnected wrong battery ..it melted the plastic near the contact where i placed positive though not as much as yours..

however after some testing and close examintation of that board all looked ok so i got a ultraCrapFire and discharged it to 3.1 volts and connected it and this case showed its capacity. did a test charge it charged .. did a tes discharged work.. tried in other ports worked.. then i charged and discharged a lot of cells in it. that particullar charger box is using fm 9835b ic.

forgot to mention it in previous post..

as soon as i received it i was shocked how close this negative terminal contact on pcb is close to +side of batteries.. (thoug mine were tab wielded) i did proper insulation of that gap.

i took care of this thing before using it properly.. these are everywhere in these chinese power bank cases.

Yeah, I meant to be asking myhken about how much of a gap in his - and also, anyone else who has the same thing he got (not tab welded), flexible plastic, etc.

Clearly the lottery is powerful in this one.

same is the case for 18650 battery holders .. i posted thier pictures in feedback section of aliexpress but they are probably witheld from beig published by seller .

very dangerous stuff from china ..

This.

I know you are still on a learning curve but I suspect regulations for selling electrical products in Norway might be a bit tighter than we hold the no-name Chinese sellers accountable to.

IMHO you really need to do a lot more research and testing before setting yourself up as a vendor selling potentially lethal products to the general public.

Unfortunately, there is a "trend" for a small percentage of users in these - let's face it - pretty specialist sites, to ridicule others for buying cheap products expecting that they might get something better than "obvious garbage." There is sometimes a bit of a "well what did you expect" mentality that basically says it is your own fault when you get ripped off.

But whilst it is easy to ignore to ignore self-righteous posts from more experienced users on a forum, it might be a lot more difficult to ignore a lawsuit from a maimed local customer who bought some piece of cheap crap from your shop.

You really need to think very carefully about the risks associated with your new business idea.

My 2c.

some dropshipper in china is a whole lot harder to sue than you are.they simply change names and keep selling the junk.
you would be first on the hook if one of these kills someone.
and many cheap items get no qc.probably what happened here.hard to tell whats wrong but that - contact might be shorting against a trace.
even if it causes a fire where nobody gets hurt the insurance will come after you even if there is no hope to recover the damages from you.

Look at this thread: Gearbest.com want me to delete thread here on BLF to get a refund. how Gearbest.com wanted me to delete this thread before I got my refund from the 11 items I had ordered of the same type that got burned.

So thats how Gearbest.com works, they pay if people remove bad reviews, or negative talk about them.
And I have more proof that I will post later on, how they work (if they don’t take to their senses and just refund me). How they pay for good reviews. And I’m sure lots of people here on this forum also is paid to recommend them and talk positive about their products.

Here is how they care about all the replies in this thread:

What do you think? I’m shocked. I’m live in Norway and is not used to get censored. And of course, I will ask for a paypal refund, if they do not refund me soon.

its open market .. and so should be the reviews..

this thread will just spread information not bad words

what was the condition of the cell ?

was it new cell or extracted from battery ?

seems new ?

I call this “no brainer deal”

because whoever refuses Sanyo NCR18650BF cell for US$2.2 has no brain

The condition was that the cell was delivered straight from a dealer in China, with UPS, that the cell was made this year, that I got the test results and paperwork on the cells. The cells was totally fine, one of 10pcs I took out of the package from China, to test and test, to see if there was fake ones, or reals ones. All 10 batteries checked out on OPUS BT-C3100 and two LiitoKala Lii500 using 1A charge - discharge - charge test on all three testers. So each battery was tested three times.
Then put into plastic holders, stored in a drawer. Each week I have tested the voltage with a multimeter, so I could see if the voltage dropped. It did not, or only 0.1-0.2V. This battery still had 4.20V when I tested it before I put it into the power banks, then red gloving, and flames.

If you look at all the pictures, you will see that I put it in right way. You will see that I did not have other batteries in the PB, for then it had been damage to the positive side on the other side.

The “crack” in the plastic, may have happened when I trow the PB the first time or the second time in the ground. The second time I trow it really hard to brake it, or get the battery out. But I can have overseen it for three weeks.

Any more you want to know?

When you do get around to selling these things, can you let us all know what trading name you will be using? Always good to know what sellers to avoid.

He has said he will not be selling these xiaomi style gearbest battery banks.

And he is already helping you know what sellers to avoid, gearbest for one.
