Ran into this thread after doing the exact same thing thing as the OP with the beam differences exactly the same except I did mine to a Small Sun ZY-T13.
Switching to the XM-L2 made a Larger hotpot that was perfectly round with no weird color distortion’s but problem is just like the OP the hotspot is less intense.
I plan to leave it this way because I kind of like the bigger perfectly round hotpspot. Interesting thread glad to know I’m not the only one…lol
