Yinding YD XM-L2 Cool White and Neutral White

Thanks for “coming over” GJHS. Yes, our “deal alert” topic is a discussion-free zone so when I mentioned these, I’d just pointed to your topics at MTBR. Glad you came here to make it easier.

Thanks guys, great group here. I’m a flashlight enthusiast so I have been reading posts here for a while. I’m glad I finally joined.

BTW There is also presale on a new build of a Neutral 3C SolarStorm XM-L2 X3 and XT40. After the creation of the Yinding, the MTBR group wanted more options in Neutral lights. I will post more info on a new thread in a bit.

I ordered one NW lamp too.

Website does not show ‘sold out’. Yes, can we get some info on the batteries please? Thanks.

From https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/28604

This is information from the manufacturer. No test has be done since most of us ordered head only. We have to wait for someone to actualy get the battery pack and be able to measure it in mAh (not in run time which depends on light and environment, can be informational, though).

This is my post over at MTBR in addition to the GJHS review.

Hi guys! I'm happy I can report some details to you about the first batch of Yindings some of you are supposed to get. Got it today to add to the GJHS reports.

In a few words it is all OK as it supposed to be.

I've taken quite some pictures, but it is a lot of work to publish them all in a short time so I've pick just few of them. I've also made some quick comparation with "KD2" (see review) and 2nd gen. Yinding I already had.

From left to right KD2, GB Yinding, 2ndGen Yinding.

The housing is as on the other pictures and it is nicely sealed. Even the mount is nicely sealed and can be rotated for 360 degrees.

They are all same housing size, has XM-L2 but all have different mount and lenses.

Tint of the leds. I would say GB Yinding has about 1D. KD2 is about 1A and 2nd Gen.Y about 4B (it is purely my guess). Would do another comparation when I get neutral 3C Yinding and hopefuly KD2 too. KD2 is in reality pure white and not so blueish, but it's not far away.

When comparing only KD2 and GB Yinding the difference is more noticeable.

On full it pulls 13.2W but I do have some looses in the wireing.

Front cover off shows leds and lenses

Drivers are very similar to the KD2 and I think they are interchangable which is very nice.

KD2 driver

GB Yinding driver

That's all for now. I hope it adds some for better feeling.

Forgot to tell, it is freezy outside , some snow on the ground and full moon, so the pictures of the beams would be shity. I can only tell the beam is more near to the KD2, just a bit more narrow.

EDIT: Compared drivers with caliper and they are interchangable. There is difference with switch height and silicone button used. But this is not a problem if you either cut the switch or silicon button. Or if you are changing drivers between the lights, you can also change the silicone button too.

Interested on a NW headlamp, BG says it is backordered. Also price of the complete package appears to be 39.17 instead of 38 (after coupon).

I hope some of our driver experts can opine on the driver. I noticed drivers “for bike lights” showing up as individual components online various places lately.
Which is the usual good and bad news, and we need to keep a close eye on what’s being shipped out over time.

If your photos (or your eyeballs and note-taking) can clearly show us what’s written on any of the components, and a straight on picture, that would help I think.

Write May@gearbest.com and explain about the price issue. She will take care of it.

Between mine and Ledoman’s photos you should be able to make out the writing and components. I’m no driver expert so not sure if I can help

Just opened up the envelope… Man this thing is compact! Received it in 14 days, not bad.

I’ll add some photos to compare it to the Security ING 900. Surprisingly smaller.

How do you add photos from an Android device?

GJHS: you also have a great thread on the Nitenumen - any comments to compare beam patterns or updates? Both of these lights (the Yinding and Nitenumen) look like great lights for 2 hr commutes that go from city to dark trails and roads.

I’ve done a bunch of reading about the Yinding over the last 2 days, the one thing I haven’t been able to figure out is why it is superior to the KD 2 with XM-L2s? People seem to prefer the KD driver over the Yinging. Why not the whole light?

Thanks

Because the KD model is lower quality and is completely hollow behind the emitter board requiring fairly extensive modding to it to address thermal path. The Yinding has the emitter board directly mounted to the case for the best heatsinking possible. Both lights are still really small for handling a lot of heat.

Thank you for that explanation.

Still, KD2 light is good enough for the price, user interface is better. Some small modification on thermal path and you are done. The best would be Yinding with KD2 driver combo, though.

Subscribed. Kind of looking into riding a bit at night and still torn between the yinding and the fenix.

Only thing thats all that better about the yinding is the front cover (removable for easy optics change) and stock heat dissipation is better. Modding to compensate is pretty simple imo. thin piece of copper sheet, good scissors and a drill. Takes about 10-15 mins. What ive done (about to put thread up from first plate mod will now almost finished light) is very extensive but its because as of last check, KD drives LEDs harder than yinding (unless they fixed that) by quite a bit and I pushed it 1010mA harder lol.

KD2 works, but unless your in a rush (KD 2 on amazon under brands of mudder and securitying) or being really cheap, buy the yinding FROM GB (not other places). And seems yindings are taking FOREVER (backorder or what I dont know) to arrive. But these guys are more in the loop than me.

KD2 stock ok, difficult but fun to mod, higher output on driver to emitters, all around BETTER driver (programmable). KD is working on the heat issues

Yinding, better build/heat management, easier to change optics, since its a “clone” parts from the REAL version fit it (optics). And if your up for it, KD driver fits in yinding so can get good KD driver into it, making the yinding an awesome light.

I hope this is not a ‘hijack’ guys. If it is, please report it and let the admin delete it/pm me and I will delete my post. Interested bikers can have a look here for a GB on the fenix BC30.

Just received my BC30 today, very good light and nice neutral tint with an excellent beam profile. One big advantage with the BC30 is if you’re spending some time on roads you don’t have to worry about blinding other commuters so much as the light has a horizontal cut off. I’d consider the yinding if the price were considerably cheaper, however either with stock battery or with the solarstorm battery pack you’ll be required to do some DIY for waterproofing. The latter I’d be concerned with the connector as mixing connector heads with different batteries often means a lack of waterproofing.

wanted to throw this over here too. Read a few things about de-doming emitters. Considered trying it but….havent been that brave. Well till today which was compeltely by accident. Wont bore you with the story behind it, but basically using noctigons inside my yinding. Last night accidently without realizing it (the long story) put it back together and emitters werent centered in the optics, noticed it today, went to fix the one cause the dome was pushed off to the side and it just popped off. Not sure how safe or anything this is (but dome isnt resiliant to anything anyway) wihtout any dome at all, but holy crap talk about a boost in throw. I can even notice any loss in light with 1 emitter de-domed but the throw change and better spot is awesome. Got my yinding to exactly where I could ever want a helmet light set up.

So thats how you make these and similar have a nice throwy spot using LEDDNA 15deg optics lol.
