I had a couple zebralights in the past and loved them but the UI requires getting used to in order to operate properly, I still use my SC52 once in a while but most of the time I can’t get the timing right and end up in a battery check menu or an undesired mode. But for someone who EDC this light it becomes pretty much perfect after some time.
I’m fine with the UI now, but I also used to make a lot of mistakes.
At one time I did wish the short click comes on in low too… But then thinking about it, we can just hand the light as is to a non flasholic and tell them to operate just with the quick click for on and off… Trade offs…
Yeah… If this is your EDC it becomes second nature. Unfortunely for me, I own quite a few different headlamps, and e switch lights- so every brand is a little different. I sometimes forget which light I’m carrying. Today is the Armytek prime.
I find it odd that people don’t love the UI. I do love it, it is similar to many Olights which I also love. I’m the guy that hates rear clickies. Instant access to 3 levels vs 7 partial clicks on a manker e41, or pull out the manual just to check battery level on a meteor m43. No thanks. I have a mkiii hi, floody and sc63 for the ultra compact 18650. Mkii keep popping up for $50ish used, and I keep scooping them up. They are coming out with a “budget” line, but I’ll bet the used prices of the high end light are a better deal.
Just wanted to bump this, because the video review is very well done. It almost convinced me into buying an SC600, but I went with an SC64 instead. The SC600 Mk III looks like it’ll be one of Zebralight’s major milestone lights. I have to admit that I’ll probably own one someday in the near future.
As for the UI and simplicity, the older UI couldn’t be changed for the single click to high mode. Now, with the modes fully programmable, you can choose to adjust the brightness of that single click mode. Once done, the light can now be easily used by just about anybody. Single click on, single click off.
My old SC52w with original UI is pretty easy to operate. I just have to remember to single press+hold when I turn it on, so it starts in low mode. Only on rare occasion do I make a mistake and accidentally trigger high from off.
What don’t you like about it? My objection is the new more textured OP reflector that reduces the throw. My SC600w HI III is probably my single most useful light for hiking because of the combination of features.
