Zebralight SC64c LE with LH351D NOT high CRI

iirc, last I checked they had the 2019 RRT-01 driver for $10 and the 2020 driver for $15, plus I think $8 to ship…

the 2020 driver has thermal step down… they are all the same size and fit both Niteye Eye10 and RRT-01

supposedly both the 2019 and 2020 drivers have higher output than original 2012 Niteye/Jetbeam drivers…

It’s one thing to make a mistake and own up to it… it’s another to be caught deceiving people and then find that the “answer” is a passive fix by simply omitting the information on their site and then not responding to inquiries about it. Unreal. An early Jetbeam RRT-01 is probably my last light from that brand.

Mine at different angles. My YLP I think looks better but it has lenses and don’t have the time to remove them. Imgur: The magic of the Internet

Your name lends itself perfectly…have you heard about Fireflies?

I have the copper E07 and smashed the SHIT out of it on the floor multiple times and it’s a tank, works like a champ still. I don’t know the quality of ZL, but some say build-wise it’s similar to Olight. The copper E07 I mentioned is the previous generations of Fireflies. The newest generation of Fireflies is their best quality yet. It feels very much like an Olight in quality and in finish, except they have top TOP emitter options as well. They also have excellent new efficient drivers that dole out a good amount of steady light for a while.

Fireflies had many QC issues when they started up, but based on their recent lights, thats a thing of the past and they have vaulted forward as some of the best lights in recent memory. Don’t expect many to agree here quite yet tho. Many in the community still have that early stigma attached to Fireflies and rightfully so. They likely spent money and felt they got burned at some point. But that snot what you hear now from people actually buying Fireflies. Now you hear many people surprised to report that they are unexpectedly pretty awesome. I have 7 and am waiting for my 8th Fireflies light to arrive, and I can tell you without a doubt that Fireflies are the lights that overall bring me the most joy in performance and aesthetics.

One more quick thing to note. Fireflies SAYS their lights have a 2 or 3 year warranty. I don’t know how true that is, but I do know that everyone who has bought the new generation lights and had a faulty one arrive (happens to all companies) or even one that took water damage…Fireflies has replaced every single one I’ve heard complained about. Many don’t report Fireflies correcting the issue with the same veracity that they complained about it, but nonetheless, I have seen every incident that I’ve heard of all confirmed to have ultimately been corrected by Fireflies. They don’t have the best communication, but the have been addressing the issues. Thats not something you can say about most companies. I’ve heard about all the big companies like Astrolux, Mateminco, Lumintop and others give many poor responses when things fail or outright give customers the run-around.

Sofirn, Convoy and Hank are some others that I would vouch for.

Anyway, E07x Pro might be a good one to try out. Personally, I feel the E12 is a stunning light with a premium feel that flat-out performs. Also, I hear nothing but great things about the Nov-Mu (mule)That the one on it’s way to me right now. I believe, “The best mule on the market” is something I’ve heard from multiple people. Hopefully you take leap so you can inject some new blood you want to your collection. Good luck

EDIT: The Fireflies PL47g2 was supposed to get the new drivers and a proper upgrade this year, but shortages have made that impossible. So Jack decided to do a minor refresh without the new drivers for now. It’s listed as the PL47g2 2021 Edition. So if you want maximum efficiency, Nov-Mu, E07x Pro, T9R and E12R all have the new drivers. But don’t get me wrong, the PL47 is still one of my favorite lights, it’s a 21700 battery flashlight with an 18350 sized body.

I have an E07x Pro and two Nov-Mu for photography use. I also have an original E07. The problem is that all of FireFlies’ lights are much too large for pocket carry IMO. The E07x is a great light and I use it around the house all the time but a Zebralight is still what I take with me in my pocket everywhere I go. I have never seen another 18650 light so small; certainly not with the efficiency and mode flexibility of a Zebralight.

Very true about size. With the exception of the PL47g2, they don’t make ultra tiny lights. But I am not into tiny lights anyway. I prefer a bit more size and usability. It’s why some prefer to EDC the D4SV2 over the D4v2. I would too except I prefer the E07, she’s just a beaut AND comes in 219B’s. Did I mention I exclusively EDC my Copper E07? So size isn’t as much of an issue for me as it is for others.

You seem to be very knowledgeable about Fireflies. Do you have any idea what’s going on with Brayn Gear/fireflylite.us the US distributor that is replacing Fireflies’ US warehouse? They were super active on social media, Reddit, etc. for a couple of months at the end of 2020, and then fell off the face of the earth. I was looking forward to there being a US-based distribution with their own warranty service, etc. but they still have only a small selection, and I’m just wondering what the situation is. Fireflies’ US warehouse is almost empty and still has a link to their website, but it just seems like they’ve stalled and haven’t gotten any of the new lights.

Your light has the old style driver, so it was manufactured before this issue first appeared in late 2019 2020.

Is there any correlation between the matt/gloss anodising and any other variables with this light?

that’s off I waited a couple months for this to be in stock in mid 2020. Talking about the link and not the Ylp ?

Sorry, I meant late 2020, in reference to the Zebralight. Time has no meaning anymore :person_facepalming:

Any other info on the driver changes, etc. and how to determine whether a given light has which version? Received a new SC64 HI direct from ZL recently and was surprised that they switched from pogo pins like in earlier SC64s and SC600 Mk IVs to what appear to be SMT spring contacts?

Here’s a terrible quality pic:

The only significant change I’m aware of for the SC64w HI is the new positive cell terminal they introduced in May 2021. The SC64c has gone through a few minor driver changes, the switch from XP-L2 to LH351D, new LED pads in late 2020, and then of course the same new positive cell terminal. You can tell if an SC64c LE was manufactured before late 2020 because the LED pads don’t have this obscenely huge thermal pad and side overflows.

I don’t know about them much. I don’t remember exactly what it was, but they or their behavior was getting a few complaints from people around here or reddit. I had bought from the Fireflies US Warehouse early last year and it was awesome. Same exact price as FF-Light.com except with free local shipping that arrived in under 7 days (3 days for me). Actually, they even had slightly better priced kits of their lights but with some of the extra accessories already included.

When Brayn Gear came out, they made it seem like they were supposed be the US warehouse of Fireflies now. But when I went to their site and saw what they offered, their options and at what prices, I knew they were not gonna compare to the original FF US Warehouse one bit. So I’m not too worried about what happened to them. I wish way more that Fireflies could find a way to restart their US warehouse again. It was awesome to have that available to us. Come to think of it, the US warehouse closing up probably saved me some serious cash.

Did they change the regulator on the SC64c at some point or was it always the TLV62085 ( 3A buck) ? it seems people assume it uses a buck-boost converter but that’s not the case apparently.

AFAIK there haven’t been any major changes to the driver design. I’m talking about things like different resistor tolerances you can use to approximate the manufacturing date. I also forgot about the PID ringing issue with the initial batches of SC64c that was fixed at some point in 2018.

Alright, I just saw your pics from 2018 and it was also a TLV62085 so it never used a buck-boost converter, maybe the previous SC6x gen did (SC/H600 mkII did).

Depends on the LED, like XHP35.

Well yes, the XHP version uses a boost converter (TPS61088) but not buck-boost, I was referring to the 3V model.
I was just wondering if the SC64c (3V) used a buck-boost before because people (esp on reddit) seem convinced it uses a buck-boost converter.

I remember reading that too. I have the SC64c LE and I’m curious to know the truth of it.
