Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

:+1:

your dog sure is ugly….butt strong!

I almost forgot this.

So is the bigger hotspot solely due to a different reflector shape?

I expected the hotspot sizes to be fairly equal.

It’s gonna be a flooder for sure. Lol

Like it:

I looks so good !

I interpreted that picture differently. To me, it looks like all that wild foliage around the hotspot of the clone is what makes the hotspot smaller. The Q8 keeps more of the light in the center, where it belongs, resulting in a larger hotspot.

OK, worked through config under ramping.

Ramping
Smooth and nice
Very intuintive that after a short stop and click hold it ramps the other way.
Handy double click to turbo (LOL 1 Panasonic protected 3400 cell could not maintain turbo and the Q8 switches off right away SEE AD 1)
Double click in turbo for strobe. Different modes neat, but not something I see myself use, so time to switch it off later.
Easy to reach batt check, very useful
Temp sensing is nifty, not measured accuracy or driven it long and hard
Version blinks out 1,3 and that is supposed to happen, good

Entering config under ramping, leaving ramping on for this is ramping config testing
Easy to enter, but watching the leds via my pc screen I realised during the 8 second wait I should have ramped down, dang spots
So entering configuration
The blinking is clear so the light tells where one is.

First ramping config advanced setting
Aim: in advanced setting turn off all functions of the indicator light.
And yes, no more light under the switch, succes!

Round 1 ramping config
Aim: ramping on, set moon to 2, thermal/timed stepdown default, set blinkies off
Q8 blinks 4 times
Exciting, what happens when I turn it on now:
Ramping works fine
Moon seems a bit lower (but idk for sure, will up moon to 7 next config play round)
Strobe, only 1 strobe, the rest is gone, could I have set it to 1 strobe? SEE AD 2

Time for round 2 ramping config
Aim: ramping on, moon 7, thermal/timed stepdown default. blinkies off
Ay missed moon settings, but getting the hang of it, non-pro-tip, ramp down and hold for the 8 seconds to enter config so you see the start blinks of the config better then after staring at something lighted on full bast
Yes done, ok what will happen now:
Ramping works fine
Moon is absolutely brighter
1 strobe is still there

OK Time for round 3 ramping config
Aim: ramping on, moon 3, thermal/timed stepdown on TEMPERATURE, blinkies, forget this one, we know the little bug in V1,3
OK here goes:
changing moon, check, setting temperature on stepdown, four blinks and the Q8 turns on full blast, temp rising. Ooh gosh, only matched reliable set of 4 are Pana 3400 awaiting the 30Qs.
temp slowly rising, 110F/43C now.
Will the Panas be able to make it hot?
After playing they were only 3,6V argh…
114,8F/46,2C….114,4F/45,8C (tube 109,2/42,9)
putting it down so my hands do not absorb heat YES now it gets hot 128,7F/53,2C (tube 112,6F/44,8C) and click, the Q8 blinks to tell it is done and turns off.
So while temp sensing, the cells, 109F/42,8C all well within safety margins.
Happy to have set this up for when the real cell come

Because of the elegant and relative simple ramping interface this kind of makes further config runs unneeded for it is all tested in normal config under ramping.
Lovely, getting into the config is easy, the blinking to say where it is are not too fast.
The blinks it gives when you click show what is registered. Very very nice and easy to do.
Lockout quad click and loooong press work like a charm, nice nice!

Back to advanced side switch settings:
All was turned off, let’s see what the three options do:

Aim: what do the 3 advanced config setting under ramping do.
the three things are: locator, voltage and indicator
Locator, voltage and indicator disabled
Q8 ON, off
Q8 OFF, off

Only Locator led enabled
Q8 ON, off
Q8 OFF, off

Only voltage led enabled
Q8 ON, off
Q8 OFF, off

Only indicator led enabled
Q8 ON, off
Q8 OFF, off
it blinks 1 time when selecting ramp mode on the 7135 and 2 times when selecting ramp mode with the FET

Locator and voltage enable
Q8 ON, off
Q8 OFF, off

Locator, voltage and indicator enable
Q8 ON, off
Q8 OFF, on
it blinks 1 time when selecting ramp mode on the 7135 and 2 times when selecting ramp mode with the FET

Locator and indicator enable (default)
Q8 ON, off
Q8 OFF, on
it blinks 1 time when selecting ramp mode on the 7135 and 2 times when selecting ramp mode with the FET

Voltage and indicator enable
Q8 ON, off
Q8 OFF, off
it blinks 1 time when selecting ramp mode on the 7135 and 2 times when selecting ramp mode with the FET
COOL, when doing the triple click for voltage it gets blinked out by the sideswitch.
The Q8 stays off and one gets a flashing beacon showing the voltage, sweet
getting into advanced setting is the same, so triple click for voltage (now whowing through side switch) and press and hold +1,2 sec for entering advanced config

For now, since testing of the config under modes is needed all set to default, but really like the voltage and indicator enabled for it gives a beacon when needed and thus making it easy to find IF one wants, but not always some light on.
Yeah sweet!
That single blink for 7135 mode and 2 when FET is also doing work, very nice and useful.

AD 1
a little delay to let Nasril know what user want (double, trple click) can be useful for I could not do the coltage check during this 1 cell operation due to the light turning itself off.

AD 2
yes blinkies not to be switched off now due to bug.
Very hard to accidentally turn on though, so not a really big issue, one has to aim for strobe to get it.

6000 lumens?

TheMiller, please put me up for another 1.. so 2 in total. thanks

Maybe a few more WW beam shots at a couple different distances? Does the relative spot size change? Is the clone dedomed? Domes optically enlarge the led die. This isn’t a big deal to me(or even a small deal), just something to squawk about while waiting.

While the modders amongst us might not worry as much about any minor software glitches the majority of buyers(even discounting all the new members that joined just for this) will need to have it as bug free as possible even if it means waiting. If it’s not really a big deal but more on the order of the A6 “isitonletmecheckOH$&/T!” then maybe nothing to worry about. I certainly don’t want to have an act III drama at this point in the play but better now then too later if it has to happen. I trust you guys to make the call in any case.

Could I put my name on the list please Stephen Elliott

I didnt keep up with the topic
How the battery was configured 4p1s or 2s2P
I hope it’s 2S2P, so i can mod it to something more powerful(maybe 4*XHP70)

4p1s

RBD, email about pending Narsil update for mass production was send to Thorfire when the bug appeared.

Hence the frantic testing now

No 4 parallel, as you can read 1 fully charged Panasonic protected 3400 worked and works on low modes but the Q8 shuts itself off on turbo
On 4 Panasonic protected cells it works and on 2 GAs too

Where is that android app to make runtimes graphs using the light sensor on phone, wanna see how long it runs after LVP kicks in (it does that very nice BTW  )

Welcome to BLF!
Will update list later

The Miller, thanks for that write up of your UI testing.

But for those of us who need to see it pictorially is there a map of the programming written up? Toykeeper makes excellent graphic representations so I’m hoping she did it. (I don’t write that to offend others)

Ok - for the pics of the beam hot spot, yes it really does look wider but look at the throw #'s - 59 kcd ain't bad. The clone does 52 kcd but not as much lumens. I'd say roughly they do the same throw at the same amps. It's more than a flooder, or floods so well it throws...

Just a little note on the output/lumens so far. djozz is measuring ~200 lumens less, so 3.6% lower than mine. Could be normal variation, or could be our calibrations of our measuring, or some combo of both. If anything, I'd be more confident in djozz's #'s since he has a real integrating sphere where mine is a PVC based light box, plus his scientific methods are better for sure.

I find this well within any margin of error or acceptable variance though, so I'm good with this.

Okay, so can you(or someone) add a zener diode on PCB driver, so when we want to run 2s, just simply solder a diode
This would be great, i see a lot of free space on the driver

Yes well in the manual a nice set of tables with menu options can be found.
BLFer joechina has a nice picture made. I’ll email him to post it.
Then joechina also made it so that it might fit in the tailcap if printed correctly.
Dale spoke of a neat info sheet, idk what he has.
Djozz is trying to find the time to make a schematic

But for now I think testing Narsil is most important, a nice pic can always be added, new code and firmware not

Sorry I don’t know if the zener pads and tracing are still on the driver. Hopefully all those nice pics Tom made can show this, if the pads are still there, the tracing is too.

No, not quite that simple - LVP won't work so firmware needs to be re-configured, and zener's are terrible for parasitic drain. LDO is the way to go for e-switch lights. Then of course there's the mechanical 2S mod, and how it will work with driver contact.

About LVP, mcu will read the voltage so it will know it’s using 1s or 2s
And parasitic drain, there is many light using 2s battery, and E-switch
I guess we can learn something from them

OK I know it has been going slow and all deviations were great.
But now please can we focus on what we have and how to get that as good as possible?
2S 4S nice but not a real concern this moment where real bugs need to be found and require fixing

There are always better ideas a year down the road and right in front of production…
