Emisar D4S review

Great pics, that looks amazing, way better than the old chalky cyan

Thanks Jensen for the heads up. Ordered one. Been waiting for the RGB aux to be added to the D4S.

what new will d4s v2 bring? Is it worth waiting for him when d4s v1 has probably all the options?
or maybe it already is D4S v2?

Actually it is V2.
That’s what I got in an e-mail from Hank:

SO this is definitely the V2. Any other changes we should know about apart from Anduril and coloured aux lights? The D4 had a few additional tweaks and I am curious as to what else has changed on the D4s. I hope there will be an official announcement with specs.

ToyKeeper wrote on Reddit:

The changes are somewhat small, but they add up:

FET+3 -> FET+3+1, so the regulated levels go a bit higher and the lowest modes are a bit lower

tiny85 -> tiny1634, so it can run much fancier firmware with more hardware features

wide-spaced wire holes -> standardized reflashing pads, so it’s compatible with the firmware flashing kit Emisar sells

single aux LED color -> RGB

RampingIOS V3 -> Anduril, so it has more features and modes

But it still has the same nice host and beam as before, since that didn’t need changing.

but no stainless bezel?

Thank you

Mountain Electronics has reduced by $5 the price of their D4S …… guess phasing out the old.

Sounds like some nice updates. Only thing missing now is a 90+ CRI 5000K option

My D4S’s have this program. Anyone know what it is?

From Off
2 Clicks - Turbo “1” (Ceiling)
3 Clicks - Voltage (Don’t know step-by-step details to get to temp or Strobe)
4 Clicks - Momentary, brightness determined by last brightness level so can
function as “Lockout”. No actual Lockout mode.
5 Clicks - Nothing
6 Cllicks - AUX in slow beacon mode
7 Clicks - AUX dim, 7 clicks bright, 7 clicks beacon,
7 clicks normal
8 Clicks - Slow flashing white beacon, brightness determined
by last brightness level
9 Clicks - Nothing
10 Clicks - Floor/Ceiling/Ramping steps

From On
2 Clicks - Turbo Max
3 Clicks - Smoorth Ramp/Stepped Ramp
4 Clicks - Floor/Ceiling/Ramping steps

brightnorm: check the first post for description of UI that comes stock with the D4S…RampingIOS V3 (Emisar D4S)

Never heard of it :person_facepalming:

Just ordered one on Hank’s web site and paid a couple of bucks for the stainless steel bezel option. The v1 was my most used light, but the v2 will take over now.

Finally I’m nearly ready to attempt to flash my D4S to Anduril I’ve been putting it off for the past nearly 3 weeks but just about got everything ready. I installed the driver and Avrdude onto my Win10 SSD this morning with no issues Win 10 detected the USBASP but didnt install a default driver so showed up initially as an unknown device but now it shows up as “USBASP” under “USB controllers”” in device manager.

It was a bit fiddly connecting the 10 pin ribbon cable to the USBASP but got there eventually after a few scary moments but then I couldn’t work out which holes to connect the Dupont cables to so I ordered the 10 to 6 pin USBASP adapter just in case but then I remember someone telling me the markings are on the back of the board so I’ll just double check later this evening to see my D4S has the same markings on the board then hopefully go for it tomorrow or in a couple of days.

I’ve just got one final question my USBASP is currently set to 5V will this be an issue for the D4S? or will I have to try to move the jumper to 3.3V? I’m hoping someone can confirm which is the safer option as I deffinatly don’t want to mess up my D4S especially now the nights are beginning to draw in.

Now I’m feeling super excited and worried at the same time but I don’t want to put it off much longer as I’m itching to test Anduril.

Thanks.

mine is set at 5.0 volts.

But even if it doesnt work, you can try it until it works. just be sure not to change the fuse values in the AVR command.

Have an android phone? That works like a charm as well.

Let us know!!

Man Without Shadow, thanks for your super quick reply feuh! I dont want to tinker with anything else if I don’t need to. TK told me the same thing not to mess with fuse values during the flashing process I just want to flash standard Anduril then put the kit in a safe place. I’ll break out the Dupont cables tomorrow morning and prep them for the D4S flash pads.

Hoping to give good news in a few days at the latest wish me luck!.

Once again thanks.

I had to sand/file my male cable ends a bit to get them in the holes. I just scraped them on some sandpaper a few times until they got narrow enough to poke in the holes. Prior to that i had some thin bell wire pushed into female ends of the Dupont cables, then the thin bell wire into the flash light holes. That was super fiddly and wires kept popping out. You’ll spend less time filing the male Dupont cable ends than you will fiddling with additional wires pushed into the female Dupont cable ends and them popping out a bunch of times.

The android phone thing I suggested is just a way to plug your usb programmer into your phone and flash that way. I’ll link to the video.

It’s specific to the D4v2 only in how you attach the pins, but otherwise an identical process.

Thanks for the tips yes I was planning to sand the female connectors of the Dupont cables rather than attempting to use wire from the connectors to the guts of the D4S. I’ve got a couple of busy days so the plan is to attempt the flash operation hopefully sometime on Thursday but now I’m glad I’ve got nearly all the prep done I just need to grab the latest D4S Anduril hex file and prep the ends of the Dupont cables then everythings looking good. I double checked my USBASP and found the same markings as the flash pads on the light which was a huge relief so much less chance of me messing things up.

Thanks for the Android flash tips I’m used to Win 10 so I’ll stick to flashing over command prompt but its fantastic to have the ability to be able to flash lights on the go direct from a phone.

Huge thanks to everyone on this thread, the D4V2 thread the the official D4V2 flashkit thread who helped me out during the past month or so without everyones help I wouldn’t have attempted a flash operation. I finally flashed Anduril to my black D4S with no issues using Win 10 an hour a go. I experienced driver issues this morning turns out the Zadig tool didn’t give me the option to install the correct driver for the USBASP I had to manually download the libusbK driver to get AVRDUDE to pick up my USBASP i was tairing my hair out for half an hour but installing the correct driver sorted the communication issue.

The hardest part was filing down the Dupont cables without damaging the connectors I was lucky the cables held together just until after I’d flashed the light then one of the cables came away from the connector in the head of the D4S so I had a very lucky escape.

I’m currently reading the Anduril manual trying to get to grips with all the new functions I need to recalibrate my temp senser as well as setting the temp sealing to 70C which is how I had it set on RampingiosV3.

I can paist my full AVRDUDE flashing log if it would help anyone the flash process only took around 15 seconds.

Now I can finally put the Dupont cables and flash kit in a safe place until the next Anduril update gets released.

Once again, a huge thanks to everyone who answered all my questions and helped me out on BLF without you I wouldnt have Anduril working on my D4S.
