Which movie did you watch lastֻ

I saw it, and I think I liked it.

Sounds intriguing. I actually enjoy slower paced & more thoughtful movies so I may give Stalker a shot then follow with Annihilation.

Good to hear it. Natalie Portman usually gives amazing performances (exception was Star Wars 2 & 3, but the writing stank though).

Watched Oblivion again for the 3rd time. One time wasn’t enough—had to revisit to catch some things I didn’t quite get the first time (which was just a few years after the 2013 release date). The 3rd has been more of an “observer” run, to spend time noticing things that would be missed as you’re focused on the main action. A lot of imaginative craft & attention to detail went into making this movie. I have to wonder if the SFX guy who did the touch screens worked on the WestWorld series. While there are some notable flaws, I just love the aesthetics of it & the pace. And it’s always great to hear Morgan Freeman’s voice.

Btw, there is a “Part II” movie coming, but it’ll be a prequel.

OT, someone went to the trouble of creating a full textured 3D model of the bubble ship from Oblivion. He gave it to a programmer who was able to code it to become an add-on to Grand Theft Auto V. Here’s a demo:

Freedom Writers (2007)

Hillary Swank is a newly-minted teacher at public high school for troubled teens. She is facing challenges when her idealistic way of believing in her kids doesn’t work out.

interesting movie if you are into the genre of high school and education.
keywords Los Angeles, California, school, gangs, crime, teaching

nb- for the ladies in this forum, there is a very young Patrick Dempsey in there too!

Tonight watched “Radio Silence”, a tidy little mystery and thriller combo, which was really good. Apparently it was a teevee movie, and did have that sort of vibe to it, but it could’ve very easily been a feature film.

A radio shrink apparently chides a caller into “ending it” (umm, her bad relationship and go-nowhere existence, not her actual life!), and she does, pops herself right on the air. The doc/host calls it quits for a year, then gets coaxed into coming back to do the show. But then the supposedly-dead caller, “Alexis”, calls in and asks the doc “How can you sleep?”. So was it a hoax? If so, why? And who’s now stalking her?

Nice thing about it was that some of the clues were there, interspersed with some curveballs. Up until near the end, you keep on guessing as to whodunit and the motive why.

Again, it kept my interest throughout, didn’t want to take any breaks and didn’t keep checking the time, so that’s a really good sign.

Definitely recommended.

Just watched “The Favourite” - wonderful period film. Rachel Weisz is stunning in her late 40’s (looks like she turned 50 this year).

The Three Musketeers (1993) with Charlie Sheen, Keifer Sutherland, Chris O’Donnell (yes, “Robin” from the worst Batman flick ever made), and Tim Curry. Where to begin… it’s an entertaining mindless romp through a historically inaccurate but boisterous tale. Alexander Dumas was not known for his historical accuracy anyway.
Interesting cast. All with 90’s hair and American or English accents (as always). French is too hard to pull off. O’Donnell plays a stupidly confident and annoying main character, the rest were eh performances with the exception of Tim Curry, who really is great at playing charismatic evil dudes. He’s the only one in the entire film who put effort into it without overacting (like others).

It’s less family friendly than you would imagine a Disney flick to be; it’s Actiony, cheesy, from bloodless sword fights to a bad-guy getting impaled by spikes; sensual in that basically all the women’s roles are either seductive fem fatales or mere standby props, all of whom are sporting cleavage, and filmed in way that we definitely don’t miss their best assets—Like seriously, was the director a 13 year old boy? Anyway, all these walking corsets are just awaiting to instantly fall in love with any of the three musketeers. It is definitely a product of its time. Even Disney movies in the 80’s and early 90’s pushed the limit a bit of what was acceptable for a PG rating (eg Dragon Slayer). But these can also be some of the most enjoyable and charming films.

“”The Shape of Water”:The Shape of Water (2017) - IMDb

Very bizarre. Entertaining to a degree. Very retro feeling with it (1950’s, 1960’s) & lots of vintage aesthetics… but still, so very weird. The acting was quite good. But I’d expect a lot of people to reach the ending with a “huh?” and kind of wish they hadn’t given their time to it.

Good movie. Mary Stuart Masterson still stunning even after all those years.
At Close Range

“The Silencing”

Great for outdoor fans, hunters or people who like crime/dramas that have a rural/wilderness appeal built in.
Above average. watchable.

Just watched; Hunter Killer last night.
King Leonidas as Sub-boat caption takes on the Russians.
Bogus Hollywood physics - as always. But who cares if the movie is good.
Super intense the whole way through. Never a dull moment.
Set your subwoofer to +3db and get the popcorn out.

All the Best,
Jeff

agree with xevious about TSOW….
only watched due to 5 Oscars.
apparently, i have little
appreciation of cinema.

however,
watched Clueless again
(since we own the disc).
Jane Austen was better
but not by much.

Very nice, warm movie.

Smoke 1995

I thought both The Favourite and The Shape of Water were terrific movies. As much as I like Frances Mcdormand, I was disappointed that Sally Hawkins didn’t win the best actress Oscar for her performance in The Shape of Water. Mcdormand had already won an Oscar, so I was hoping for a first time win for Hawkins. Of course, awards are rather silly, in the big scheme of things artistic.

I guess it came off a bit too oddly surreal for me. Reminded me a little of “”Big Fish”:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Fish.” Strange. Is it supposed to be a comedy? A mystery? A romance? Well yeah… the latter as it turned out to be. A “Splash” kind of ending. I remembered Tom Hanks being able to breathe underwater thanks to Darryl Hannah.

Paths of Glory.
just like Kubrick
to end most of
his with a song.

That’s a great one. You can see the influence of that movie in “1917” and many others.

Just catching up…

Yesterday’s was “In/Sight”, which was a blast most of the way through.

ER nurse gets zapped when not breaking contact when a Kitty-Genovese-like victim is getting defibbed. From that point on, she starts experiencing the victim’s memories, and knows it wasn’t a random crackhead who killed her, but someone she loved. And the nurse can’t let it go, but pokes through the case to find the killer, much to the chagrin of the detectives working the case.

But what’s the big secret? Why is almost everybody insisting she stay out of it? Watch the movie to find out.

I really liked the movie but think I need to rewatch the ending, as it just seemed a little bombastic and drawn out (like a coupla minutes straight of slo-mo with “Aha, here’re your answers” music), and left questions unanswered, but at least one reviewer said otherwise, that the questions were answered. Hmmm. I’ll have to go back and find out.

A little treat was seeing Max Perlich and Juliet Landau, both alums of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”, and both were even in the same episode (“Becoming”).

Other than that, you had some other recogniseable actors like Sean Patrick Flanery, Veronica Cartwright, Daniel Roebuck, and even Christopher Lloyd.

Today was “Tribal — Get Out Alive”, which was pretty awesome. Put a videogame to movie format, and there’s TGOA. It was a fun little romp.

Almost instant action and quick exposition in the first few minutes of the flick, then it sets the stage for the conflict, then bam!, you’re right in the middle of it.

Fight the superhuman cannibal zombies level after level, trying to not lose your entire team getting picked off one by one. Nonstop action and suspense right through the end.

Fairly simple plot, great car2nish violence and gore, absolutely great kick-ass fight scenes, I didn’t check the time even once, that’s how engaging it was. Tune in, kick back, enjoy!

I watch The Hitcher with Rutger Hauer

The last movie i watched…is … can’t remember,
and recently, just watch TV and it’s chinese TV…
