A 12 yr half life is what it’s marketed as, but if you read the watch forums that may not be so true for all. You can’t stop it’s degradation when not in use. AMOLED is rated 5 yrs at 8 hrs a day and degradation is mostly based on it’s usage. I only use it as a watch. Just a few seconds to read the times each day. But I wanted something always as bright as a freshly charged lume. It would take a T100 tube to match that. The smartwatch gives me that in med brightness setting and any detail that is not black, is lit up. The display stays bright until it needs recharging. This is a cheap alternative. I just found 1,000 free faces to add to the others in that file. You can’t do that with a trit watch.

I didn’t attack your choice, feel free to use whatever you like.

But, if it uses Tritium with a half-life of roughly 12 years then it will activate only half as many atoms in the phosphor layer 12 years after you had it in your hands for the first time. It doesn’t matter when that happens, if it was on the day of production (say 100 to 50%) or 12 years later (50 to 25% of the original brightness)

I heavily doubs you’ll wait 12 years to buy another watch anyways Wink

And well, I have my Traser roughly 5yrs now and it feels same bright as when I got it.
I wouldn’t even change the watch face but I wish I could take the glas out of the bezel, stonewash that steel ring and re-attach the glass.
I guess it’s glued in so I better don’t try.

Only the faux leather on the nylon strap was degrading after 2 years so I had to take it off and sew on real leather.
I just like the fact that I can read the watch in any light circumstances without the need to push a button or to charge it with light.

Maybe the smartwatches now realize the arm movement when you look at them, at least that’s how it should be.

It’s also kinda difficult for me to find a watch that I really like. Digital is a no go for me and I like “real” things, we stare at monitors all day anyways.
I don’t need a mechanical watch, god forbid hand winding, had that when I was child, thanks but no thanks Wink

But a real face with maybe even minor mistakes in centering that you only find when you’ve got nothing else to do, that’s it for me Wink
At least today, tomorrow is another story to tell.

Thanks pal. I just noticed I haven’t updated the date since before April. I have to start wearing this watch more often.

Nice one, Glenn! The one I posted earlier was bought about 10 years ago. Unfortunately, I don’t actually know where I put it. It’s probably sitting in storage somewhere. Sad

Pete, I hate when that happens! You’ll probably find it when you’re not trying to find it. That happens to me all the time.

I’m with you pal. Being retired, it’s embarrassing that I forget what day it is at times, and what I had for breakfast yesterday. I hang my head in shame……lol!

BTW, how many Seiko’s do you own? I’ve got 7. 6 auto’s and 1 quartz.

I need a few extra days. How many watches can l send over for you to do this for me. I’m happy to pay a small fee as well. Smile

Recently bought an Amazfit Bip in black for about £37. Also got a good quality NATO style two piece strap for a measly £2 which I think looks great. All in all, a lovely little smartish watch which records my steps and activities and is brilliant for notifications as my phone is almost permanently on silent.

Hi Paul,

I went for her elder sister, the Amazfit Pace. Smile I’m also quite happy with it (ceramic bezel & lugs, always on display, built in GPS & WIFI, syncing with Strava).

Are Stuhrling quartz watches decent enough? Someone posted one of their automatics earlier in this thread.

I’m looking for an inexpensive (sub $100) diver-style watch with SS bracelet that does not require winding. The reviews seem mixed when it comes to their quality.

If you’re looking for accuracy, stay away from automatics or manual wind. I have several. The best one gains 5 seconds a day. The worst is over 30 seconds a day. My Seiko Tuna Quartz, and even my cheap Timex’s are within a few seconds a month. Just a thought..

Yeah, I am not looking for automatics. I already have a few of them. I don’t wear a watch very often, so every time I do decide to wear one, I end up having to set the time on it.

That’s why I’m looking for a quartz watch this time that I can just grab from the shelf and know it won’t require time setting. That’s why I was asking about Sturhling quartz watches. Just not sure it’s worth the $90 they are asking for it…

re stuhrling - i would pass and get something like a casio marlin or a seiko 5 quartz ....any quartz watch will be very accurate but still the stuhrling is going to have so-so innards and the money mostly going to looks or advertising.. wle

Thanks. I need something with an SS band. I guess I could buy one separately and swap it out. I also forgot to mention I need something on the smaller side – 42mm max.

But you got me on the right track. I think this one might work:
