Did you make a I.S. or what?

I made a quick “light box”

All estimates are based off the 200 lumen mode of the SC600.

Most interesting to me is the lumen drop of the FTT when zoomed. Is that normal?

My guess is that due to all of the light hitting one area the material reflects less light over all but I'm not quite sure. I'm guessing you installed a baffle of some kind to prevent light from directly hitting the meter?

It’s not hitting the meter directly for sure. Must be common to all FTT lights I just don’t pay much attention to them. That’s with a 14500 too.

That’s normal.

An aspheric lens has no spill so that light is “wasted”. When you have the FTT in flood mode it’s so unfocused that it’s almost like not having the lens there in the first place and therefore more light gets though.

Its normal for small diameter zoom-aspheric lights to drop lumens when focus’d like that. The only emitter lumens that make it OTF are the ones that reach the lens. The farther away the aspheric is from the LED, the fewer lumens “touch” the lens.

Trustfire R5-A3, New-515, and Trustfire Mini-01 added.

Found a more consistant way to measure… still need to make a lightbox or meterind tube device… but I need to record these measurements so I’ll post them here.

Oh yeah, I forgot… .119 (just for my reference)

Yes, the FTT lights that I have tested in my sphere lose around a factor of two.

The EC1 also works with 2xAA but no tube will fit those crazy threads.

Nice thread Tecmo. Thank you for sharing this.

But you have got me wondering... How do you go about making a "quick" lightbox if I may ask??

Before I got my sphere, I tried using a light box. Compared to the sphere, they are really awful.

How so?

Cut two holes in a shoe box. There, I said it.

But seriously most of the readings are very close.

The readings from a box tend to be very dependent upon the angle the light is shining into the box and where the front of the light is in relation to the opening. I could see well over 50% changes in the readings. With the sphere they are well under 1%.

I painted the inside of my box with a flat white paint. Bare cardboard absorbs different parts of the spectrum differently and can skew the readings since the resulting response curve no longer matches the human eye response.

Yeah doing a bunch at the same time works well, but in a couple weeks I might get odd readings. Still 10 times better than I could estimate without a lux meter.

Updated, some new lights and new lux readings. Thought the table would look nicer but….

Added Eagletac D25A, Eagletac D25C clicky, OSTS R5, TN11S, Justrite 1940’s lantern, Crelant 7G3CS, Crelant 7G2CS, and BTU Shocker lux rating (won’t fit in my lightbox!).
