What knife do you have on order?

Not a very original title but I’m interested in what knives you currently have on order.

I’ve got nothing on order at the moment.

Ordered my first GB-763 and EL-01. Was very close to ordering the fake fallkniven f1 from somewhere, but managed to resist the urge.

Ordered Enlan EL01a and SRM 605 from Exduct yesterday, already shipped with tracking today. Asked for green grips on the 605 but said red OK . . . hoping for a nice surprise but guessing it won’t happen since it shipped so fast.

Need advice on another knife here.

Always a good reason! Looks a little uncomfortable to hold, though.

I just wonder how the tang extension will ride in the pocket.

Unless it’s really tight, you almost have to have the sheath.

Don’t need any premature openings….. Shocked

I want one of their sheath knives in the worst way.

Oops, forgot to add my T01a to the ordered (and now shipped) list. We’ll see if this is too wide and whether it looks like quality, otherwise it will end up as backup in a car.

Yeah the Inron is tempting at that price point. The same seller also has the Y-Start knife fixed blade relatively cheap that Isti reviewed.

I'm also looking hard at this Elk Ridge knife....

I thought that Elk Ridge uses the chinese equivalent of 420J2 steel. If it is, it will be very stain resistant but will also become dull quickly.

The Ganzo G707 I just got for $16 is very nice.

I just ordered the Inron 803 @ $10.50

Having a more basic steel isn't necessarily a bad thing, like you said corrosion resistance and easy "resharpen-ablity" might make up for other downsides. Actually I like the very basic steel on SAKs very much, even if it is not regarded as a high quality steel in the knife community.

420J2 is used for all Dive knives and most kitchen knives, even good quality ones…

The heat treatment is far more important than the steel choice, IMO.

Buck and Cold Steel use fairly “pedestrian” steels in a majority of their offerings, yet few complaints arise from end users.

With that said, I’m waiting on the arrival of a vintage “Carbon V” Recon Tanto that seemed to escape notice on FleaBay. Smile

When Buck came out with his famous knife in the 60’s it was in 440C steel. Top of the line at the time.

Customers bitched and moaned about how hard it was to resharpen once it got dull.

So Buck switched to 420hc steel. Soft as a baby’s butt…..but easy to resharpen….and resharpen and resharpen…

There are some knives on alibaba, I mean ali express that are clones or replicas of american-branded stuff (and also the wannabe italian-rambo brand) that are advertised as having d2 or ats-34 steel. Do you think that info is as fake as the rest of the knives or might I actually get a d2 steel blade? A strider with g10 and a d2 blade for around $40 sounds like a good deal to me.

Oh and there are fake carbon v and sainmai knives there also. Hope to see fake s90v soon Smile

All fakes are completely fake. A clone can be well made and does not try to fake the Name. Counterfeit knives are Bull Plop as far as actual usage. Fakes are all show and no go.

Queen Cutlery, USA, makes very nice knives of real D2 for about $50.

D2 is actually an old metal….been around since before WWII, used in tools.

My overall advice is.... better get a "Chinese original" than a western fake.

Thanks for the info and the link to queen cutlery.

Anyone up for ordering a replica of this for 1 / 10th of the original’s price? You can find them at aliexp.

Actually I have one of those folders with the “strider” text on the blade. The scale is made of real G10. It’s very good quality and comes with a cool bee wax style texture.

I have a couple of Leen folders on order.

Ordered today an Enlan F723. Seems like Enlan has cloned some SRM knives. Maybe we’ll soon see some SRM clones with decent wood scales – that’d be nice, huh? I already have a SRM 723, sadly the black coated one (dammit, I ordered the stainless steel WA3-723 for a reason, you st***d f**k). SRM’s coating skills suck (yeah, M1K3Z0R, the same coating you’ll get on your B4-939, muahahar Wink ).

LOL, yes I heard about the flaky black paint on the SRMs. 939 was an impulse buy since they are discontinued, and it looked tacticool Big Smile
Heard the blade profile is great for food prep, but I don’t want the added texture of paint chips in my food; ever since I saw a de-anodized 763 I’ve been kinda wanting to try reverting something to pure aluminum Big Smile

And yep, you’re not the only one surprised about Enlan’s recent cloning, I wasn’t sure what to make of it when I saw an Enlan branded 710 with musical symbols on the handle. It would be pretty hilarious if they cloned the sebenza clone to ride on SRM’s success, but I suspect that Enlan/SRM aren’t really independent companies as they both tend to make disproportionately quality stuff.

All with brand-name equivalents are fakes. It’s just for collection/display and opening cardboard packages.

We have “fakes” in the flashlight arena as well, just not as common. The flashlight aluminium body for the cheaper lights might not even be 6061. Some are ok with fakes, some take issue even with a $32 fake TK35. Of course you do not pay a lot for a fake, but some are very good for the price. Smile

I can’t seem to find that fake sebenza torture test vid again (that video shot by a chinese in China, not that Polish one), they were spine whacking it and doing crazy stuff and it was actually very good. If the demand drops, i am sure aliexpress sellers would drop the price, it dropped to 29.50 before.

Not an expert here, but if you are looking at good knife then i’d not be choosing a $26 Enlan EL08 9Cr13Mov, but say a Buck Vantage Pro with S30V and good lock, it’s 60 bucks on Ebay and in the US i guess you could get from some online stores at 50 bucks. Or a Kershaw Leek with D2 cutting edge at 70 bucks on ebay. At least on bladeforums, it seems that the heat treat on the Buck S30V is even better than Spyderco’s S30V when measured and tested in cutting tests.

An Extrema Ratio Nemesis with 6mm thick blade is only 19 bucks cheapest, and the version with 4mm blade i got it only for 13 bucks. Why not? I’d never be able to afford the 400-500 bucks for one witha N690 blade since i don’t even have semi-professional use for one.

Buck Vantage Pro 192 mm  119g

Enlan EL08          220 mm  190 g

Hardly the same class ... 28 mm and 71 g difference... that's 2 size classes apart in my books. Sorry to sound like a broken record, choose your class first and then look for alternatives.
