Please recommend a nice 2AA - Crisp push button - Simple modes - Under 30USD - From DD - To replace Klarus P2A

Basically I bought a P2A from DinoDirect. It had problems, so DD gave me a partial refund of 10USD.

So Im looking for a 2AA light - Not to be picky but this is my list if you guys can help me pick?

Something like a Fenix E21/ Klarus P2A type light Simple High/Low thats it.
-Fwd tail clicky
-Clicky button has nice firm positive action. (Klarus P2A boot/switch is pure garbage much)
-Battery size 2x AA
-HA (hard anodized quality coating like on Fenix lights)
-Clip
-Lanyard
-Budget under 30USD, so with my voucher it will be under 20USD.
-Quality light with Q/C to lessen chance of getting a dud
-MUST BE FROM DD (I know it limits things, but they did give me a voucher)

Thank you very much.

My financial situation really took a nose-dive so this is the last light I will probably buy for the foreseeable future. So Id like to get a good one.

I was just going to say, I heard that the klarus is just like the jetbeams, and the jetbeams are just like the nitecores, in that the tailswitches and boots feel cheaper than most of the budget brands I’ve dealt with. Fenix, sunwayman etc…they make a solid tail switch….I’d vouch for one of those.

If there is a light you want but don’t see on DD’s site, email summer. I emailed him about a SWM V20C, which they didn’t have on their site. Within 2 days, he not only got it in stock, but had it listed on the site AND gave me it for $10 cheaper than anywhere else I could find.

Some ppl may not like DD but Summer has always treated me top notch!

Thanks MIZ, thats excellent advice I had no idea that Summer could get custom things. DD current selection leave a lot to be desire and I could not find any lights I like. Now that I can ask summer it opens up so many other lights!

Do you think this light meets my criteria and is a good basic light? SunwayMan makes good lights and this is their low end so it must still be good? Never had a sunway man before.

R20A

If it is sunwayman, i’ve never seen or heard of a poor quality one. Those look nice. I am a big fan of knurling, but even those look tempting. Let me know what kind of price he can get. I don’t see much for reviews, but there is the goinggear video:

Looks like a very nice light.

I like the fenix E21 And i agree with you the klarus and jetbeam pa/ ba tail clickies felt like bad mashed potatoes ..compared to the fenix it's night and day ..best clicky ever.

esrevenge, please update if you buy R20A from DD regarding its sale price :D!

Definitely a simple, solid, well-built light…can’t go wrong with an E21.

I may have to vote fenix e25. I love the knurling and I am a side switch fan!

I have this. The stock tail-switch is pretty crap; terrible feel. It’s one of my favs after replacing it, though. Tint is a 2A or D, more cool than 3C but I rather liked it.

The red looks a lot better in person than in the photos. It’s a muted rather than a bright shade.

If you want a quality aa light for not much, get the tank007 566 1mode + extension. Very nice output with only 0.5A so great battery life w/ alkalines. Highest efficiency I’ve seen in a budget light, better than the R20A (1A draw for about 50% more light)

Only problem with the tanks are horrible tank PWM and a really ringy beam on their q2/q4 models When I did an xpg simple emitter swap the beam got much better .Doing a mild op on the reflector might help even more ..light is much nicer with the tint and output mod .

I linked to the e25 side switch fenix which has no tail clicky and the side click I have no idea if it's a firm or spoungebob ..Actually looks like a dumb split rear end for no reason ..just adds 4 sharp edges :(

The 1 mode has no PWM issues. The mode ones aren’t so efficient (old5470 measured 1A on 2AA for similar light, or half as efficient, none of the budget AA’s have good drivers except the 566 with 2 cells). The beam on the 566 I have are perfect.

Do you have the newer xpg version or the older xre q4?

Mine are all the xre q4's and all bright as hell (same output)whether 5 mode or single mode ..

I bought a bunch last year and the year before from dino D for under 10$..probably 20 so far ..kicking myself for not buying more .superb light for 8$.

hard to beat a real 1/2 price deal

EDit: 5 mode High 1.04 Amps

low .06

with 2 eneloops fully charged

I have the xr-e version. At least on mine the beam is pretty good for a SMO reflector. The mode-ed ones apparently have the same efficiency as any other budget light (pretty poor, and 2AA just cuts power use per cell in half), but the 1-mode perhaps has a different driver and only uses 1/4 the power per cell on 2AA’s as 1AA for same brightness. Very efficient.

DD doesn’t have too many decent 2xAA lights :expressionless:

I really do like my E21, I may get another one of those. To me the E21 is a classic no nonsense light. It would be good if the low were lower (ie to use in a room without blinding yourself), but the switch is great, grip is great etc.

I am a real Fenix fan, but what my set this light back for me is the side switch.

Basically with the E21 I can pick it up and blast it on with a twist I know it will go to high. And I can fwd click short bursts.

With the E25 Im afraid I wont know what mode its starting in (it has memory) and I wont be able to jump right to high (since it appears E25 is button only, no twist for high.)

Id like to know what the button is like, a real hard click, or like softer? I wear gloves/mitts too and the side button may be hard to locate by feel. Vs a tail switch.

But a LOT of companies are going side-switch its like a real trend now.

Thanks for telling me about the tail switch being crap, for me that puts it out of contention. I dont know how to replace or fix tail switches or want to spend the money on extra parts .
But just to ask, how did you replace the stock switch-cap - is it easy? Maybe I can replace the switch on my Klarus P2A?

All you need is a new switch cover. Most of the chinese sites sell them, the P2A takes 14mm ones.

It’s just a drop-in part like on any other light. I fortunately happened to scavenge one from another light. So now the SWM has the decent switch and the other light has the cheap-feeling one.
