DQG AAA IV XP-G2 NW beam colour???

Does anyone else have the DQG AAA IV in XP-G2 NW and can tell me how your beam colour is? I would say mine is more like extreme incan yellow and absolutely not neutral white. So not NW but VY (very yellow). Is this the case with yours too, or could it have something to do with the lens? The light itself is a beauty, but the beam colour is in my opinion not very nice.

The hunt for the perfect night/checking the kids light goes on. Can someone mod this one with a Nichia 219 perhaps? The size and build is perfect and the beam pattern with the lens is just great , but the colour produced is disappointing.

I modded my dqg III aaa with a nichia, but it was not easy and with high risk destroying the flashlight. It had a very warm coloured neutral xpg in it before as well, I quite liked that yellowish tint.

Mine is the same. Very yellow but a nice little light regardless. They also sent me one with a magnet instead of the glow dot in the end. If the light had a cooler tint and turned on when the head was loosened (so I don’t have to stress about the head falling off while on my key ring) it would be a great little light.

thx for the info guys.

saves me the energy to think about potentially acquiring the AAA IV.

Actually, when Ric announced version IV here on BLF (as a remark somewhere in that huge DQG18650 thread), he mentioned that it would have the loosen=on/tighten=off operation. Apparantly that did not happen in the final product...

There are NW and CW versions. I wonder why it’s on two different websites.

It does say it’s a 5a tint - see here: http://flashlightwiki.com/images/f/f6/Ansiwhite.jpg

The new DQA IV passed me by…

Are there appreciable differences between III and IV (except XP-G2) ?

I think I might have gone with the Cool White if I could do over

As for tint, it is warm, not really too warm for me tho.

Pro's:
Lovely warm tint
Very small, ~2mm longer than Preon P0
Decent output, significantly higher than P0
Has a spot, which P0 lacks
Gets decent ceiling bounce, which P0 doesn't
Nice knurling, easy to operate w/ one hand
Can tailstand
GITD lens
Option of Tail-Magnet or GITD tail insert, so no need to heat-kill a magnet w/ a lighter flame like I did w/ the P0
Takes eneloops

Con's
O-ring broke within one day, now using a P0 spare o-ring
Head gets pretty warm on high
Not quite as well-built or sturdy seeming as P0, which has a flawless-seeming build
Knurling: personally I prefer smooth body on this form factor
Threads a bit rough

Overall, to me it's worth the $32, but personally I'd rather have this led&electronics in 4sevens Preon P0 casing.

As for other keychain lights I looked at, I liked the Peak Eiger but its way too long for my keychain tastes, I prefer around SAK Classic length or lower so thats like 60mm max.

And the only other lights that match that size limit run on those tiny 1/3 AAA 3.7v batteries with only 60-90 mAh (Quantum DD/D2 and Overready Eiger, and the MBI HF on a similar battery- all these are awesome but aside from battery capacity/size, they cost $80 and up).

I loved my Quantum D2 but felt like I need to avoid using it so the battery won't run out. Plus I lost it, which reinforces the benefit of budget lights...

It looks like it uses the improved (IMHO) tail from the DQG Titanium. The split-ring is now attached to the body of the light, while still being able to tailstand. The magnet is also stronger (actually useful).

Hopefully it also inherits the tighter thread tolerances from the Ti version. The head of my DQG III wobbles more than my Ti version, although it is still well within acceptable limits.

Thanks milkfat - I own the Ti and SS DQA III and I didn’t notice head issues…mhm… I’m not sure… must resist…

The head on my SS IV is perfect. No wobble. I love the quality and form factor. Great little light for around the house duties. GITD dot is useless though. Should have had a slot for a 5mm tritium vial instead. That would have made it a perfect bedside/keychain light.

After having this light for a week or so now, I really like the tint now. I do find my self nipping the head up to make sure it isn’t going to fall off when I pick my keys up but it stays in place well. Everyone I have shown it to is surprised at how much light can come out of something so small.
The price could be seen as expensive for such a small light considering it is a third of the price of my TX25C2 but this wouldn’t be the hobby it is if a little thing like price got in the way of wants!

How long did it take to arrive for you?

I was contemplating putting it in a sheath of some sort on my keys. Or at least a protective cover over the lens. Looking at how beat up my E01 is on my keys, things get a bit of punishment in my pocket … ooh err

Mine took about 4 weeks to arrive and infuriatingly, the whole time my account was telling me it had not been sent. Fancy flashlights aren’t real flash at answering emails either asking when my light would be sent.
As to whether to protect your torch with a sleeve, I wouldn’t bother as it is stainless steel and seems very sturdy for it’s size. Mine shows no marks at all from living in my pocket on a key ring.

Funny how tint is a matter of taste… I now want one of these - with the 5b. I actually would have loved 7b… but this is warm enough.

If you want a nichia I would skip the hassle and potential destruction and simply buy a L10 illumination L3 with nichia from sbflashlights.

10 days … kind of surprised when it turned up so quickly! Got it from CNQ though but still.

I love it! The tint is beautiful. At low, I would say it’s a golden yellow. On high, a peachy yellow. It is a nice warm glow. I am worried about scratching the lens though so I’m in search of a cap, which may act as a diffuser for it before it goes in my trouser pocket with the keys.

The negatives, well the threads weren’t lubed and some batteries rattle. I have a 550mAh panasonic that I’m using at the moment as it is light but when it’s off, it rattles. Not that it matters too much

anyone else got one?

Mine took ages to get here, like two months cause they sent it to the wrong suburb… luckily the post guys eventually figured it out.

It is quite a yellow beam but I don’t mind it.

But compared to my Thruntie T1 which cost HALF as much and arrived MUCH faster… even though the DQG is smaller I still think the T1 is,

Better value
Better made
Brighter
Better UI
Better EDC torch.

I’ll keep the T1 on my keychain as my EDC, but the DQG will stay on my bed side table.

Some things I do like:

Its size, it’s totally tiny!
Brightness is good, but just a bit dimmer than the T1, it doesn’t help that it is quite yellow tint too
The green glowing goo in the lens looks REALLY cool at night
It has a solid sturdy clip.

Does anyone know if this light will run off a lithium battery ?
