Group Buy Interest - Top Secret Reflector

I am wondering if it would be possible to get enough people together to do a group buy. With the MG-T2, bridgelux, and probably other big emitters ahead, having a large reflector mega thrower is now achievable. These big emitters need a tight beam to not flood out.

I contacted Illumination Machines to see if they have a large smooth tight beam reflectors that are bigger than their LUM5-90. They said:

“Yes, we have a special Luminus CST90 reflector which achieves >100cd/lm and is an ultra-specular reflector with no facets for military spot light applications.

Overall diameter of the aperture is 117.6mm with an 11mm lip OD of 128.7. Depth of the reflector is 120mm.

Minimum order is 100 parts, and you will need to sign an NDA to receive the technical data.”

The images they sent indicate that it is a 3 degree reflector. They would want $19/reflector for 100 unit order.

Anyone interested please indicate so and number of units you would like. Expressing interest is does not create a commitment to buy on your part or a commitment to supply on my part. Just gauging interest. Please only serious parties only. Lower 48 states (USA) only for now.

I would not mind if someone more experienced at this stuff would step in an take the reigns on this.

I would be in for 2-3 of them.

Wow, a reflector so top secret that you have to sign an NDA... Put me down for one! :D

put me down for one!
dont know what i will use it for yet, but i like big reflectors

Oooh! Nice! Interested in one if it goes thru, does the NDA also prohibit posting a pic and a beamshot?

1 or 2 here. Awesome!

Sorry, disclosing what's in the NDA is prohibited by the NDA. I'm sure you understand.

:D

Nice. I wonder how it would do with such a large die, in the MTG-2.
That thing is Monster deep though……

2 please

if we get a sample, and a test w/ mtg2 is very good, I might do 3 or 4…

What would we put it in?

The NDA is to receive the technical data. I’m not about to request it. They can keep the data. I just want some big kick ass reflectors.

I tried requesting a sample. Only got the above response. Some of you above have well-documented established reputations on this forum. I would like to suggest that one of you approach Illumination Machines for one. Anyone care to volunteer? I think we should coordinate our communications with them to avoid creating confusion and possibly undermining ourselves. I’m thinking we probably have room to bargain on the price.

Put me in for one. There has to be something fun I can do with that. (HID maybe)

I have emailed them several times about this reflector and have never received a single reply…

I would take 2 for certain.

Ok, make that two for me. :D

I would be in for 2, but I’m pretty sure we will never get close to the minimum quantity. I guess we see how many we can get up to and then inquire about pricing for a smaller order. I get the impression they may not budge on the minimum quantity requirement. Never hurts to try though.

That is monstrous. 300cd/lum is CRAZY.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS?

So if you drive one at 3,200lm (max rated on luminous site )that means 320kcd. And that’s with a dome. Imagine over driving it to 16A and dedoming it.

It would definitely approach 750kcd.

Very special indeed, if only I had the tools or the time to build myself one… Sigh

Too big for anything I have an interest in, something similar in the 72-80mm range and I'd jump on it though.

Here’s an idea. Go to HD, get a big SonoTube (those tubes for running concrete pillars), and build a 5x MT-G2 monster thrower. J)
Chi-X, get started on a 14” copper heatsink for it.

I could use 3 or 4 of them…
