does anyone have the nitecore srt 3? if so how is it?

ive been looking at the nitecore srt 3 - probably to use in an aa format

price is a little steep at $75

anyone have this light and what do you think?

Hi, my review in Spanish

review SRT3 Spanish

It is one of my favorite flashlights, great quality throughout. But if you use it with AA, is so large (or more) that some 18650.
Its efficiency with AA (NiMH) is not remarkable (note the price).
It is good choice for use predominantly with cr123a and RCR123A

thanks

great prices - probably below map, ordered myself a srt7

For $50 I'm tempted to grab another one...

It's a very well made, and thought out light. The one big issue I do have with it, is that it's BIG for a 14500 light. It's actually larger with a 14500 than some 18650 flashlights, and it's about the same size with a 16340 as the SC600II, when using the 16340.

I like having the extension for 14500/AA, but I don't think I'll ever use with anything but a 16340.

By the way, the head of the SRT3 and SRT5 are exactly 100% identical. The SRT5 is just driven a little harder.

Different light, but same brand, no? My D10 was so crappy that I wouldn’t pick anything up from Nightcore again. If that’s not relevant to a conversation on the Nitecore Srt 3, then I don’t know what is.

Thanks for the warm welcome. :stuck_out_tongue:

I believe it worked as one word - laborday. Nice discount of $26 off $90.

That's understandable, but the D10 is an old model flashlight. Things change over 5 years, and even from the same companies there are differences between models, and production runs with regards to quality.

Plus Nitecore has been bought and sold a couple times too.

I need parts for a D-10 …happy to take it off your hands .

Ah, I didn’t know that Nitecore has changed management several times. I should have mentioned that the biggest problem I had with Nitecore was replacing my light under their warranty.

I don’t mean to turn this into a Nitecore bash, but when I got my D10 factory direct ~3 years ago, it was not functioning properly, flashing and turning off and on randomly.

It took a looooong time and many phone calls to a Chinese number (mind you using my girlfriend who speaks Mandarin…) to explain the problem, figure out the shipping, and get a new light. When I got a new light, it came “funky”. It whines on medium, and has always had a sticky button. I tried to replace it again, but gave up and lived with the issues… That experience was enough to keep me away from the brand altogether. I probably shouldn’t suggest other people do the same, seeing as how it’s changed hands and the design is probably different, but meh, I opened my mouth. I’ll be more comprehensive and relevant in the future.

PS Great forum here, and thanks for the heads up on the labor day coupon.

Order placed, thank you!!!
I was debating between this one and the D40A but I got the D40A instead. Now I’ll have both. I’ve been eyeing the SRT3 for a while now

i got the d40a today from doing outdoor and the srt7 from illumination supply

just sold some stuff so i have funds hehe

Congrats. Let us know what you think of the SRT7. That one has been on my hit list, too. My D40A will be here Wednesday with Prime.

Gotten your hands on a P25 Smilodon recently?

Before FastTech got hit by all the MAP crap, I snagged one for only US$62.60

It's by far my favourite compact medium sized flashlight. Excellently made and makes me feel tacticool.

Got my SRT3 today from the Buy.com sale for $49.99 shipped. I wasn’t sure if I would like it, but I do! The build quality is actually a little better than I expected. More on par with SWM and other 100 dollar lights. It’s got some great features: a good deep pocket carry clip, and anti-roll ring that actually works and an AA extender that’s included with the light.

The red and blue lights are neat, but the “cop mode” is pretty much useless. Even if I were trying to impersonate a cop with it, the output is just a few lumens so I don’t see the point other than your friends saying “wow, cool!”. But overall, the control ring has a great feel to it, and it’s very intuitive. It has a detent for moonlight mode which is a big deal for me since I can find moonlight by feel in the dark. The tail switch has the same great feel as the one on my MT1A. The XM-L2 is floody as one would expect with the small reflector size.

Not much in the way of cons. It’s a little bulky for a x123 light, but I already knew that. I’m not a big fan of the strike bezel. They could’ve recouped a mm or two without it. Overall, though, I’m super impressed. My V11R needed to have the grease repacked, so while it’s waiting on the workbench, this might just dethrone it as the ultimate nightstand light, now being filled by my L10.

Fit and finish are flawless. If it’s built as well as it appears to be built, this is going to be my EDC for quite some time!
